The Championship League Snooker competition continues on Wednesday when another two first round groups take place inside the Mattioli Arena in Leicester on a day where eight more players get their tournament up and running.
We saw a top 16 player in Shaun Murphy on Tuesday but the two groups on Wednesday are more competitive rather than having standout quality like that, so it will be a different day but it should be another enjoyable one.

One of the more competitive groups in the competition is Group 18 which is actually the offering on Table Two on Wednesday. The top seed in it is Yuan Sijun and the improving Chinese player will probably like his draw while acknowledging that it could have been a little easier. The second seed in this section will be Sanderson Lam, who is another one who has improved over the last couple of seasons but he suffered a heavy loss in Wuhan Open qualifying last week. Alexander Ursenbacher feels like he is better than a third seed in a group but that is the status that he has for this one. Stuart Carrington is definitely too good to be the fourth seed but the fact that he has dropped off the tour means he takes up that position here.

Preview
The action on Table One on Wednesday will come from Group 25 where we have a couple of experienced Welsh players battling it out with a pair of Chinese youngsters for the spot in the second round. Ryan Day is the top seed in this group but his form has been patchy for a while now and that will certainly keep the other three players interested. Matthew Stevens is the second seed and you never truly know how he is going to go in an event like this so early in the season. Yichen Xu is new to the tour but already he has slotted in as the third seed and completing the quarter in this group is another took rookie in the form of Lan Yuhao.

Betting
I’m a little bit surprised that we can get 11/10 on Yuan Sijun to beat Stuart Carrington in the opening match of the action over on Table Two. I get that the favourites haven’t necessarily started this tournament off in the fashion that they would have wanted to but at the same time these two men look to be going in different directions in their career with one a player on the up in Sijun and the other a fading force in the form of Carrington.
That is highlighted in the fact that Carrington is no longer on the tour. He did get into the British Open qualifiers last week but lost in his first match and I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he won’t suffer the same fate here. Sijun is into the top 32 in the world and is one of those on the list of players who could easily be a tournament winner this season. He won both of his qualifying matches last week so he comes in here confident and as the more progressive player I think he is value at odds against in this one.
