The first week of the Championship League Snooker tournament concludes inside the Mattioli Arena in Leicester on Saturday on a day where two more first round groups will be played out as eight players look for a spot in the second stage.
It is a day without a top 16 player on show on Saturday but the cast list is quite deep for once in the competition which should mean that we get a couple of competitive groups across both of the live streams throughout the day.

Preview
The action on the main table is headed up by the former world champion Stuart Bingham. He recently appeared on the Stephen Hendry YouTube channel and admitted that he was having a couple of issues with his game so that might open the door up for the other three players in the group. The second seed is the Polish ace Antoni Kowalski. Kowalski had a good win in the British Open qualifying last week but hasn’t really shown consistency alongside his talent. Hatem Yassem is the third seed in the group and he has barely won a match in the year and a bit he has had on tour while the fourth seed is the amateur Halim Hussain who has a chance to showcase his stuff.

The action on table two might be more competitive than the main table because it has two genuine runners in it. The top seed is Elliot Slessor who will be hoping to use his status in this section to prove that he is one of many players who could win a tournament this season. The second seed is Stan Moody though and he is one of the better second seeds in the draw so the bracket hasn’t helped Slessor too much. Oliver Brown is the third seed but he is still making his way on the tour. The quartet is completed with another amateur in the form of Mark Lloyd who might find that this is a tough day at the office in this section.

Betting
There isn’t a massive amount that I like over the course of the day on Saturday but while I expect Elliot Slessor to have a big season, it hasn’t started great with a 4-2 loss to Jackson Page in British Open qualifying having survived a scare in the Wuhan Open qualifying where Oliver Lines really should have beaten him in a deciding frame having been 4-2 up earlier in the match. That makes me think the odds against on Stan Moody to win Group 17 is a bet worth taking.
Moody has seen off a couple of competent challengers to qualify for both of the tournaments later in the season with Antoni Kowalski and Zhou Yuelong his two victims and he has the chance to build up a head to steam by winning a group which I do expect to be dominated by the main two. The group could well come down to the last match between Moody and Slessor but with that extra confidence Moody is carrying he might be more likely to have the better frame difference or highest break to have the draw on his side in that encounter so at 11/10 I’ll play the youngster to come out on top here.
