CONCACAF Gold Cup 2025 Final – USA vs Mexico Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The CONCACAF Gold Cup draws to a close on Sunday evening when the two biggest footballing nations on the continent meet for the title when the hosts USA go up against the defending champions in Houston.

These two sides have gone through the competition unbeaten and now they are one match away from winning the title. This will be their last competitive match before they co-host the World Cup to add to the intensity of the game.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on Premier Sports 2 in the UK with the short build-up beginning a few minutes before the 12 midnight kick off.

USA

The lead up to this tournament was very patchy for USA and then when Mauricio Pochettino named his squad and left the majority of his European based stars out of it there were questions over whether he was looking to win the tournament or using it as a finding out process for next summer. Those answers were soon given and while you wouldn’t say that USA have been completely convincing throughout this event, there is a genuine case to be made that they have improved with every match.

That certainly appears to be the case in the attacking area of the game where Diego Luna is becoming a bit of a star and if anyone from this squad is knocking the door down to be included next summer it is him. USA have been a work in progress defensively but that is where not having their European based players has hurt them the most. This has actually been a dynamic USA side which carries more of a threat than it looked like they might do.

Mexico

Having won this tournament two years ago and the Nations League competition as well, Mexico came into the event as the favourites to retain their title and they are now just one more win away from justifying those expectations. The Mexicans had a bit of a shaky start to the tournament where they were given a couple of scares but since then it has been a cruise and they will be hoping to dominate this final in a similar fashion too.

The one thing you would say about Mexico is they haven’t really put a team to the sword in this tournament yet. Admittedly in the knockout stages in Saudi Arabia and Honduras they have played a couple of teams who were content to just stay in the match as long as possible but even so considering we are only 11 months away from Mexico co-hosting a World Cup, I would have wanted to see more from them considering the majority of their first-choice squad is here.

Betting

If you had told me before the tournament that these two teams would make the final then I would very much have been all over Mexico in this final but we do have to take notice of the way the matches have played out and now I’m not as convinced about the Mexicans as I was at the beginning of the competition. I’m far from a USA fan but there is no doubt that they have offered much more going forward and that might be the difference here.

I do expect this to be a tight final. You have to go back to 2015 for the last time that there was more than a goal between the two sides in the final and I would be surprised if that trend changes here. I do think the draw is a real runner but I’ve liked USA much more going forward in this competition than I have Mexico and when I think back to the earlier part of the tournament, Dominican Republic scored twice against Mexico and Suriname also scored against them. That makes me think USA will score here and that goal might be enough to land the trophy.
