CONCACAF Gold Cup 2025 – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The CONCACAF Gold Cup is down to the semi-final stage with both matches taking place over the course of Wednesday night as four teams battle it out for a spot in the final of the competition on Sunday evening.

The two main runners have made it through to the semi-finals but we had a couple of big surprises in the quarter finals as well which means that we have a couple of dangerous outsiders looking to book their spot in the final.

USA vs Guatemala – (00.00 – Premier Sports 2)

The opening semi-final of the competition comes from Energizer Park in St Louis as the host nation USA look to book their spot in another Gold Cup final when they go up against the huge surprise package of Guatemala.

Both teams were taken to penalties in their quarter final and you would imagine that Guatemala would settle for that outcome here too given the discrepancy in ability between the two sides. USA are the ones who are going to have to force the pace here but they will take heart from the fact that Canada looked to be all over Guatemala before they were reduced to 10 men but lacked the ruthless streak that the States will hope that they have. Guatemala made full use of their one man advantage in the quarter final and they are live outsiders here but they are pretty clear outsiders. I just can’t be having this USA side though. I think they’ll win this but I just don’t trust them at all. If we could have got a 1.75 Asian handicap on the Guatemalans which would have needed a three goal margin to cover in full I might have been tempted in but we can’t so I’ll sit the opening semi-final out.

Mexico vs Honduras (03.00 – Premier Sports 2)

When the first semi-final is done the attention will turn to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara where a feisty second semi-final awaits us when the defending champions Mexico go up against a Honduras side who take no prisoners at the best of times.

Honduras were another team who required penalties to come through to this semi-final. They upset a decent looking Panama team on spot kicks and will believe they can get something from a Mexico side who have been solid rather than spectacular in this tournament. That tends to be the DNA of the Mexicans though. They were never in any real danger in their quarter final against Saudi Arabia but you would have liked them to have put the game to bed more emphatically than they did. I wouldn’t be surprised were something similar to happen here. I don’t think that this is a fantastic Honduras side, although to be fair when they had to take the game to Panama when behind they did look pretty decent. I don’t expect Mexico to allow themselves to be exposed as easily here though and so the bet I like is the same one I took in the Mexicans’ quarter final which is Mexico to win and under 3.5 goals. They don’t look like the sort of side to blow anyone away but they are tight enough not to get involved in a shootout now they are up to speed after that crazy opening game. Honduras are durable enough defensively despite that emphatic loss to Canada in their first match. Since then, the only goals the Hondurans have conceded have been an own goal and a penalty. I think the class of Mexico will come through here but I don’t see it being a runaway success so Mexico to win and under 3.5 goals will do for me.
