The second match from Barbados in this season of the Caribbean Premier League takes place on Thursday night when the former champions Barbados Tridents host the St Lucia Stars in a match between the bottom two in the competition.
This match is quite simply huge for the home side who have to win to keep their play-off hopes alive. St Lucia end their season with this one and they won’t be spending too much time dwelling on what has been a wretched campaign.
Barbados Tridents
In one way this is the perfect match for the Barbados side and in another it is the worst match they could have had. I say that because they are looking to respond from a brutal beating by Guyana last time out where they were bowled out for a paltry total. If they fail to win this match their season is as good as over.
That pressure will be interesting but at least on the plus side St Lucia have been awful throughout the tournament so if the Tridents can play well then they should have enough to get through here. It will be intriguing to see how they go about things when they have the bat in their hand. You would think they may get nervous.
St Lucia Stars
One of the worst seasons in franchise T20 cricket history will come to an end in this match when the St Lucia Stars end their campaign. If they don’t win this match then they will have gone through the entire ten match season without a win which would be as pathetic as it would be embarrassing it has to be said.
They have bowled terribly in this tournament and by and large have offered little with the bat. Worse still there hasn’t looked like they have had a plan at any stage apart from hit and keep on hitting but that simply hasn’t worked. Whether they can come up with anything for this one remains to be seen.
Team News
You would imagine Barbados Tridents will make changes to their batting order for this match if not their line up after the debacle of the previous match. They could employ a pinch hitter like Wayne Parnell up top.
St Lucia Stars could pick any combination really given that they are playing for pride. The way they have played this season they can’t have too much of that so it is pure guesswork as to how they will set up.

Betting
Despite their shambles of a batting performance in the previous match I expect the Barbados Tridents to win this one and win it fairly well but it is hard to take a side who’ve just been rumbled for 50 odd.
In fairness it is not much easier to take a team like that to assist with the run scoring but I don’t think the St Lucia attack has too many demons in it so I am going to go back to my beliefs that this will be a high scoring ground. That looked the way in the first game here until Barbados collapsed. I’m expecting no such issues here and we can get into the 300s for total runs.
