CPL 2017 – St Lucia Stars vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Betting Preview

We go back to the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St Lucia for the one match in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday evening for a clash between the St Lucia Stars and the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Both sides remain without a win in the competition which makes this a huge match. It is probably bigger for the Stars given that it is their home game but both will be itching to get off the match for the campaign.

St Lucia Stars

The Stars tried a different tactic in their recent match against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday evening. That was to try and chase a score having failed three times to put up totals significant enough for them to defend but all that did was put their bowling attack under pressure with the outcome being another loss.

There are serious problems for St Lucia now. They were of course dealt a blow on the eve of the tournament when David Miller was blocked from playing by South Africa but they have had enough time to come up with a contingency plan but if anything they are getting further away from that magical win.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

It is now played three and lost three for the Guyana Amazon Warriors but at least they showed signs of being a little more competitive in their latest loss against the Trinbago Knight Riders. To be fair to the Amazon Warriors they have played St Kitts and Nevis twice and Trinbago and they could be the best two sides in the competition.

This match may well be a better indication of their form. If the Knight Riders and the Patriots continue to dominate the competition then there will be no shame in losing to them. Guyana finally put up a score in their last match and with a bowling attack that offers plenty of variation if they can do that again they are in business.

Team News

It remains to be seen what St Lucia Stars look to do in a bid to turnaround their form. They have a couple of aging players such as Shane Watson and Darren Sammy and it will be interesting to see if they can play two matches in barely 24hrs.

Guyana Amazon Warriors brought their captain Martin Guptill back into their ranks for their last match which immediately improved their batting. They may give the same XI the chance to get their first win.

Betting

I like the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this match. St Lucia Stars have batted first and been humped and now they have batted second and been blown away too. A big problem for them is that they have had little time to work out where they went wrong last time out and come up with a plan to put things right.

Guyana have had long enough to take stock of their three defeats and with this match being their first one against one of the lesser sides it might be that they are not as bad as their record currently suggested. At odds against the Amazon Warriors are the standout value here.
