CPL 2018 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Tridents Betting Preview

The final team to get their Caribbean Premier League campaign underway is the Barbados Tridents and they do so on Sunday evening when they take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the sole match to conclude the weekend.

The Warriors have won both their matches thus far and will be looking to take a real stranglehold on the league table with another victory here while the Tridents will be looking to get themselves off to a winning start.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

There are a few things that will please the Guyanese side. They have won a match courtesy of their batsmen and then they have won one with their bowlers bailing the batsmen out. It is the sign of a good and a confident side that can win matches in both disciplines and that makes them a dangerous proposition from here on in.

The question mark going forward will be whether they have the attack to go well in road matches but they certainly do on their own ground. They would like their middle order to contribute at some point in an ideal world but the main thing for the Warriors is they are going along nicely. A win here before a period of away matches would be useful.

Barbados Tridents

We get to see the Barbados Tridents for the first time in this match. I think heading into the tournament most judges would expect the Tridents to win matches with their batsmen. You can see that when you look at their squad but also when you think the majority of their matches will be at the Kensington Oval it makes perfect sense for that to be the case.

As far as this match is concerned they will need their spin and slower bowler options to stand up and be counted while the likes of Steve Smith could be key. He is adept at scoring on sluggish wickets whereas a number of his peers prefer the ball coming onto the bat. If they can put it all together though they look dangerous.

Team News

There is no reason for the Guyana Amazon Warriors to make any changes unless someone hasn’t come out of Saturday’s match too good. If that isn’t the case we are likely to see the same eleven for the home side.

Barbados Tridents will be without Hashim Amla who is still in Sri Lanka but Wahab Riaz has left the T20 Blast to feature in this competition. Steve Smith was picked up by the Tridents too and could be a key man here.

Betting

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have the same problem that the Trinbago Knight Riders had on Saturday in that they have to back up a performance a day later. We saw Trinbago look pretty flat and tired in that match and I wouldn’t be surprised if Guyana are the same after an emotional victory.

With that in mind I think the Barbados Tridents are the ones to be with here. Their freshness should be an advantage and I think they have enough spin options to restrict the Guyana batsmen. Barbados bat deep which could be important as well if it is a low scoring match and at 10/11 they are the bet for me.
