CPL 2018 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Betting Preview

The second match of the Caribbean Premier League season sees the CPL opener in Guyana as the Guyana Amazon Warriors play host to the much fancied St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Thursday evening.

We saw a resounding victory for the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders on Wednesday night and now we will see what shape the beaten finalists from last season are in. We should be in for another exciting night of cricket.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Amazon Warriors were perennial bridesmaids earlier in this competition but haven’t even been invited to the final dance for a while so they have room for improvement. I never think that is a bad thing in these franchise competitions although I thought it would help St Lucia Stars on Wednesday and I couldn’t have been more wrong.

If you are being critical then it could be that the Warriors are a batsman light. That might come back to haunt them when they travel away later in the competition but for now they should be able to ride the back of their many spin options in conditions which are likely to suit. You feel it is vital Guyana maximise their home matches.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The beaten finalists of last year don’t have a whole lot they need to improve on but with the signings they have made in the off season I do think they have improved and credit needs to go to them for that. They look like one of the most powerful batting line ups in the competition which will serve them well down the line.

The test here will be whether that batting talent and depth can perform to their optimum in conditions which might not suit as much and also whether they can get the spin options that they have to come to the fore under the bright lights and the pressure. If they can then you would think the Patriots will take plenty of beating here.

Team News

Chadwick Walton has moved on for the Guyana Amazon Warriors while Cameron Delport pulled out of the tournament. Chris Green could make his debut for the side, as could Imran Tahir. Both should be key players.

Sandeep Lamichhane and Tom Cooper are set for their debuts for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots while all eyes will be on the explosive opening pair of Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis. Ben Cutting could make a debut.

Betting

Only one first innings score was over 130 on this ground last season and although these two sides never met here last year, they played in America, when they competed on this ground two years ago 108/8 played 109/6.

This is a low scoring ground traditionally because the wicket is slow and the pitch turns. It is quite possible for the Amazon Warriors to send down 16 overs of spin should they so wish while St Kitts have spin options themselves. I think we’re going to see a bit of a struggle for the batsmen here and with that in mind the best bet would appear to be to take under 305.5 runs.
