CPL 2018 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League remains in Jamaica on Wednesday night when Sabina Park hosts its final match of the tournament as the Jamaica Tallawahs look to extend their lead at the top when they host the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The Tallawahs flew clear of the pack with a win against the St Lucia Stars on Tuesday night and a win here will have them in a wonderful position. St Kitts and Nevis have a win and a loss on their ledger so a win here keeps them ahead of parity.

Jamaica Tallawahs

It would be wrong to suggest it was one of the best performances we will have seen from the Jamaica Tallawahs on Tuesday evening but they got the job done and a side can never be criticised for that. If they are going to win the tournament they will need to bowl and field a little better than they did but it is still early days in the competition so we can cut them some slack.

One area where the Tallawahs will be absolutely delighted is with the bat. They have produced two excellent batting performances and actually I don’t think they have fully fired as a unit either. There is a lot more to come from the likes of Johnson Charles and to a lesser extent Ross Taylor. The Tallawahs are in good shape.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

After dropping the opening match in disappointing style full credit must go to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for bouncing back and beating the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders. In fairness we should point out that they got the Knight Riders playing for the second time in two matches much like they get Jamaica here but you still need to perform and they did.

You get the feeling that this Patriots batting line up has the potential to be one of the most powerful in the competition. Evin Lewis has done nothing so far and if he can get going then along with the likes of Chris Gayle, Ben Cutting, Tom Cooper, Anton Devcich and Carlos Brathwaite any score is possible. Whether they can regularly restrict the opposition is another thing and will determine the success of their campaign.

Team News

There is no immediate reason why the Jamaica Tallawahs would make any changes to a winning combination but it is tough on bowlers to back up the following evening so it could be that they freshen up in that area.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots may decide to go in with an unchanged side too after thoroughly thrashing the Trinbago Knight Riders last time out. Evin Lewis hasn’t got going yet but he has enough credit in reserve.

Betting

I’ve got a temptation to back the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on the basis that I keep droning on about how tough it is to back up a performance the following day but to be fair to Jamaica Tallawahs they don’t necessarily need to back one up because the likes of Andre Russell and Rovman Powell can produce blitzes which win any match.

With that in mind I’ll go with the safer looking bet of over 14.5 sixes. The price is a little skinnier than I would normally take at 4/6 but when you think we just saw a game which had 23 sixes in it which wasn’t necessarily the highest scoring game we can see the potential for sixes. This St Kitts and Nevis side are a lot more powerful looking than the St Lucia one and they’re in better form. It would take something pretty bizarre for 15 sixes not to be smacked here.
