CPL 2018 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs Betting Preview

The second half of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Sunday takes us back to Warner Park for what should be an entertaining tussle between the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Both these sides should be involved in the postseason although to be absolutely certain of that the Patriots need another win or so. Jamaica have the chance to lay down a bit of a marker here and maintain some confidence at the same time.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

There have been no home comforts for the Patriots so far. In the two matches they have actually managed to play they have been soundly beaten and then of course there was the shambles of the washout in between. St Kitts have this match and another one to come at home and you feel they really need to find something before they leave just for peace of mind if nothing else.

The Patriots’ problem right throughout the tournament has been a lack of tempo with the bat. Generally in the matches that Chris Gayle has come off in they have gone on to put up sizeable totals but when he has chewed up deliveries they have fallen well short of the mark. They might need to think about employing a pinch hitter to solve that issue.

Jamaica Tallawahs

If you ignore the Florida leg of their season the Jamaica Tallawahs have been a very productive outfit throughout the campaign. They have generally eased their way to decent totals with the bat and their bowlers have looked much more comfortable on the quicker tracks that the Caribbean has had to offer thus far.

It is now all about getting everyone into form for the Tallawahs and making sure that all of their units and all of their combinations are firing as well as they can. If there was one criticism of them it would be that they lose momentum in their innings when Kennar Lewis bats at number three. They don’t need him there with the batting power they have in their ranks.

Team News

There will be players who find it hard to back up from the night before for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots but whether they have much on the sidelines that can come in and make a big impression remains to be seen so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are unchanged.

Jamaica Tallawahs could decide that they don’t need Kennar Lewis. The lack of balls the likes of David Miller and Andre Russell are facing is criminal and then there is Colin de Grandhomme on top. I wouldn’t be surprised if a bowling option comes in for him.

Betting

It is the weekend so I am back on my pointing out how hard it is to back up a performance the following day. It continues to prove to be the case. We are now five out of seven in terms of losses in the second game from the teams playing back-to-back matches this season and with that in mind I just have to be on the Jamaica Tallawahs even at 4/5. The Tallawahs have already handed out one beating on the Patriots this season and if they can control Gayle then recent matches have shown the home side struggle to form a proper innings. Jamaica just look too strong with the bat and the ball to me.

Given that the Trinbago Knight Riders hit 16 sixes on this ground on Saturday evening I’m amazed that the sixes line is 14.5 for this one given that I’d wager Jamaica are the biggest hitting side in the competition. St Kitts and Nevis will always hit sixes with their batting power but they are always going to ship them as well especially on a relatively small Warner Park ground and the good wicket there. I’m more than happy to get on the over here.

Rassie van der Dussen arrives with a huge reputation for big hitting and being South African he will like the seam options that Jamaica Tallawahs will attack him with, with the exception of Samuel Badree. If he can come through the Badree spell then he can get on the attack and run up the runs at a quick rate. At 13/2, given that he batted at three in the previous match, there is clear value on the South African to be the top St Kitts and Nevis Patriots batsman especially if Jamaica can take care of the opening pair early doors.
