CPL 2018 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Barbados Tridents Betting Preview

The Barbados Tridents play their final match of the Caribbean Premier League season on Friday night when they head to the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad to take on the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders.

This is a dead rubber in most ways but the Knight Riders need one more win to guarantee a top two place which is very much the focus of the remainder of the regular season as whoever gets those places gets two chances of getting to the final.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Taking advantage of your home matches is often a key route to success in this tournament so the Trinbago Knight Riders will be delighted that they have managed to produce a good all-round performance in their last match. They will be particularly pleased that their bowling attack came to the party in that game as it has had a couple of question marks written over it.

One area where they have not been founding wanting this season has been with the bat. They have regularly put up huge scores and that is no real surprise when you look down their order and assess it man for man. They will be wanting their bowling to remain on track though because when you get into knockout games it will be that unit that decides the outcome.

Barbados Tridents

I think if at the start of the season you told people how bad this season would be for the Barbados Tridents nobody would have believed you. That is how bad it has been. When you look at their squad they do not have the personnel to justify just two wins from nine matches in the campaign so they will be eager to end on a high.

I’ve said it plenty of times and I’ll continue to do so, the Tridents batting has been awful this season. The problem they have had in recent times is in the quest of finding a batting combination that works they have sacrificed some of their bowling strength and now they are in no man’s land which is where nobody wants to be.

Team News

I would expect the Trinbago Knight Riders to be unchanged for this match. Chris Lynn plays his final match of the tournament before he departs for the Australian domestic season so there is no need for the Knight Riders to be unchanged.

Barbados Tridents will be without Steve Smith. We know that about them but we don’t really know who else they will choose to pick or leave out such has been their tendency to chase combinations that work.

Betting

The sixes line for this match looks quite high at 15.5. In the matches that have covered it here they have needed cameos down the order but I’m not convinced the Barbados Tridents are set up to allow that. As long as they don’t get bouncer happy they should be hard to hit sixes off. Trinbago are difficult to hit sixes off on their own patch themselves with the exception of Andre Russell and he’s a freak in terms of six hitting. All things being equal I expect the total to stay below this line.

I took the performance of Dwayne Bravo in the last game here on Wednesday evening and he covered easily enough. I’m happy to take him on a 41.5 line again in this match. He took two wickets in the reverse fixture between these two and with the size of the Barbados tail I would expect that again. That would mean he will need a catch or a couple of runs with the bat which we can expect to see so I like the over once again.

Jason Holder has had a decent season with the bat and I think he’s value at 14/1 to be the leading Barbados Tridents batsman in the match. He scored 30 in the reverse match between these pair and he comes in here with a 30* to his name too. He also has a half century in this tournament so in a batting line up that at no point has truly got going 14/1 looks a big price on the Barbados skipper.
