CPL 2019 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League remains in Jamaica on Friday night as the Jamaica Tallawahs take on the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders for the second time in the campaign. Trinbago won the first meeting and will be eyeing up the double here.

These two sides have made very different starts to their season. The Tallawahs have played three matches and have lost the lot while the Knight Riders have opened up their title defence with three victories from their three outings.

Jamaica Tallawahs

We are getting to the stage where there should be real concern for the Jamaica Tallawahs. They might have a bowling attack full of international experience but it doesn’t look like stemming the scoring rate of anyone, and if anything when they are bowling to the top order they are going round the park more and more. That has to change if they are going to have any chance in this competition, but less than 24hrs after finishing one game there probably isn’t time to address it for this one.

The weird thing is that the Jamaica side don’t need to be perfect with the ball. They have a ferociously powerful batting line up which can score big in all conditions let alone on small grounds like their home one and one or two others around the country. If they can find something with the ball, and actually it is in the field where an improvement has been needed too because their catching has been terrible also, there is still time to get back in this tournament.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders have won all three of their matches so far in the competition although they have all been on their home ground. They go on the road for the first time this season in this match so it will be interesting to see if they can maintain their dominance. The positive thing for them is that despite them having a perfect record to date, there is still a lot more to come from them as we’ve not seen them at their very best.

There are some big players to come back into this Trinbago side which is going make them even stronger and there is still a fair bit to come from a batting line up, which has done enough to win so far without expanding into the brutal powerful unit they can be. The one thing which is working well for the Knight Riders is the bowling attack, although with the personnel they have on show that should be no surprise.

Team News

Jamaica Tallawahs are going to be without Andre Russell for this match after he was cleaned up by a bouncer in the defeat to the St Lucia Zouks on Thursday night. Imran Khan could be the man to come in for him.

Trinbago Knight Riders should be able to call on the likes of Colin Munro and Darren Bravo for the first time this season. Munro has arrived in the Caribbean after international duty while Bravo has had enough time to recover from the concussion which has kept him out to date.

Betting

There are a lot of things in favour of the Trinbago Knight Riders here but they are still a little on the short side to me given that you wouldn’t be comfortable of anything being defended on this ground. I definitely can’t be backing the Jamaica Tallawahs with the way they are shipping runs at the minute so once again it is back to the side markets for the look for a bet in this one.

As with Thursday night the bet I like is for there to be more than 17.5 sixes. We saw 19 sixes on this ground in that game and Chris Gayle was out first ball which isn’t going to happen very often, so based on that you’ve got to think there is the potential for even more of them here, especially with the Knight Riders not exactly lacking in the power hitting department either. This is a small ground where sixes come naturally and I fancy we’ll see 18 of them at the very least here.
