CPL 2019 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs St Lucia Zouks Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the Caribbean Premier League double header comes from Warner Park where the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will look to bounce back from their Saturday night defeat when they take on the St Lucia Zouks.

This is a big match for both teams as the race for third and fourth in the table begins to intensify with Guyana and Trinbago looking away and gone at this stage. With home matches starting to run out for the home side this is pretty big for them.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

It was always going to be a bad match up for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots against the Guyana Amazon Warriors but they made it look even worse than it was with a pretty clueless batting display. To be fair to them, losing Evin Lewis in the warm up was not the ideal situation but there are so many good players in this batting line up who aren’t offering what they should be and that needs to change pretty soon.

The Patriots usually give it a good go with the ball which given that their ground is a batting paradise should be applauded but that department of their side can’t do it all on their own, especially on a tiny ground such as Warner Park. They need to find it in themselves to produce an all-round good performance pretty fast if they are to stay in contention here.

St Lucia Zouks

The Zouks head to Warner Park off the back of their best performance of the competition so far. It probably won’t get the credit it deserves because it came against Jamaica Tallawahs who have been horrific in the tournament to date but the key thing was that in the main they batted well. If they are going to push this thing close they need to get as many batsmen in form as possible as they will need big runs on their home ground when we get there.

The Zouks’ win over Jamaica was actually set up with the ball. They bowled with good discipline and got the big wickets when they needed them and if they can do that again here then they are going to be in with every chance. You get the feeling that St Lucia are warming their way into the tournament nicely, which given they have their home leg still to come they should be doing, so I would expect a strong showing here.

Team News

It is unknown if the problem Evin Lewis picked up in the warm up on Saturday night will keep him out of this one but you would have to think it will so the Patriots could name an unchanged side despite the loss.

There is no real reason for the St Lucia Zouks to make any changes to their ranks for this one either after such a good performance last time out. They might choose to bring Christopher Barnwell back in but that is unlikely.

Betting

Rakheem Cornwall has been the pick of the players for the St Lucia Zouks in this tournament and as such I think he’ll have a good game on a ground which should really suit him. He is hitting the ball so well at the minute and has clearly grown even more as a player since he made his Test debut against India earlier this month.

He has a performance line in this match of 34.5 which looks a little low to me. He has covered this with the bat in two of the three matches he has played in this tournament and was 1.5 runs short of it in the other. As the wickets begin to tire in this event his off spin should come into play a little more and if the Patriots have to go after him he could easily pick up a cheap wicket or two. You’d have to think there is every chance he covers this with the bat but with back up options for us too I’ll take the over here.
