CPL 2020 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Tridents Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Tuesday sees the defending champions Barbados Tridents looking to get their title defence back on track when they go up against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The Tridents start this match outside the top four and with only three matches left including this one they are in desperate need to find some victories. Guyana currently sit in the top four but it wouldn’t take much for them to drop out so they need to be careful here too.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

It might have the opposite effect for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. While it is likely to see their top five come to the party once again, their bowling, which much of their success relies upon, might not be quite as effective so it will be interesting to see how that goes with regards to them being able to stick to their plan, or whether they are going to need to call upon their batsmen to stand up and be counted a little more.

If it is the latter then the performance of Nicholas Pooran in the last game will be perfectly timed. That is now he, Ross Taylor and Shimron Hetmyer who have shown good form in this tournament which gives them a chance in a high scoring match. Ultimately though you would think the Amazon Warriors would want to play their cricket on a pitch which doesn’t really come on to the bat so that their spinners and change pace bowlers can be most effective.

Barbados Tridents

One thing is for certain is the Barbados Tridents will be absolutely delighted to get away from the Queens Park Oval. Their batting hasn’t been brilliant throughout the tournament but it really suffered on the cabbage patch pitches at that ground. They are back on wickets that are coming onto the bat a little better here so that is very much a positive for their chances. They will need to bat well but it would be a surprise if a natural improvement doesn’t come along.

If they can find some runs then they have the bowling attack to go well in these conditions if they are used correctly by Jason Holder. They have a good array of seamers who can get some extra bounce and spinners who can bowl into the wicket and get some turn. Ultimately how well Barbados will do is down to their batting effort. They just need to give themselves a chance by getting themselves in and then exploding rather than playing some braindead cricket.

Key Men

Nicholas Pooran has been talked about in these parts for a while and we saw why on Sunday with that brutal innings. Good players maintain their form for a period of time so it will be interesting to see whether Pooran can do that.

Shai Hope hasn’t got going in this tournament at all with the bat but when a team is struggling with one discipline of the game they always look to their senior and star players to lead the way. Technically Hope is the best player in this Tridents outfit and now is the time for him to show it.

Betting

I think the total runs line for this match is a little on the low side at 288.5 I have to say. I understand why it is like that because Barbados Tridents have been a mess with the bat in the tournament apart from the odd individual innings and their effort to chase down 92 last time out was little short of pitiful but actually when you look around their scores overall that innings the other day was the only time they haven’t scored 148 in a full innings in this event.

Guyana have plenty of batting in their ranks and the rise to form of Pooran only strengthens them as a batting unit. They can either explode up top if Brandon King gets going or they can nudge and nurdle and then launch with the likes of Pooran, Paul and one or two others down the order. Both sides have competent bowlers but I’m not completely convinced this wicket will bring out the best of their skills so with that in mind I’m happy to take over 288.5 runs here.
