CPL 2020 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Lucia Zouks Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday sees the Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on the St Lucia Zouks to kick off the fourth round of matches in the CPL 2020 regular season.

Both these teams sit on four points after three matches so whoever wins here will put themselves in a really strong position to launch a bid for the semi-finals as we head towards the halfway stage of the campaign. The losers aren’t in a terrible spot though so hopefully we’ll get a good game as a result.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will be buoyed by coming off the back of defending the lowest winning total in CPL history against the Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday evening and they look to be getting into their stride now. The concern over the Amazon Warriors was whether they had the spin artillery to contain sides on pitches that are naturally going to suffer a lot of wear and tear. We got the answer to that against the Tallawahs.

That bodes really well for them because you only have to look at their starting XI to highlight just how good a batting line up they have. Their batting hasn’t got going as a complete force just yet and they have still won two of their opening three matches. If they ignite as a collective then the Amazon Warriors are going to be well placed to push for an appearance in a sixth Caribbean Premier League final come the end of the campaign.

St Lucia Zouks

The Zouks were given a bit of a going over in their opening match against the Jamaica Tallawahs but they have bounced back nicely to win their last two. They were fortunate that the rain came and made their win over the Barbados Tridents a lot easier than it might have been, but I’ve already made the point that they were well on top at that point anyway. There was nothing lucky about their win over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday though.

That was a complete performance with a fast start with the bat and a big flourish to maximise their score before a consistent bowling effort where at no point were the Patriots batsmen allowed to get away from them. That is the standard they need to try and replicate throughout the remainder of the competition and if they can manage that they could be considered genuine dark horses for the title next month.

Key Men

Chandrapaul Hemraj hasn’t got going with the bat in this tournament yet but you would imagine he’ll only need a couple of lusty blows before he is up and running. His slow left-arm could come into play the longer the event goes on though so he could be important for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Roston Chase has had a fine start to the tournament and if the St Lucia Zouks are going to come out on top in this match then you would think he’ll need a big match not just with the bat but with the ball as well.

Betting

As with the earlier match in the day I’m not expecting a high scoring clash here I have to admit. Both bowling attacks set their stalls out on Saturday. There is going to be an enormous trial by spin but in Scott Kuggeleijn and Keemo Paul there are seamers who can take wickets so that the heat isn’t all on the spinners. The other reason why I’m not expecting a high scoring match is with the exception of Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase, none of the batsmen on show have really hit form.

I don’t mind Chase being in form because he isn’t the sort of player who is going to go at a 200 strike rate for large periods and propel scores up to something it shouldn’t be. Guyana have a very economical bowling attack so it is hard to see the Zouks scoring plenty anyway. We’ve seen the pitches really slow up in these second day games and that isn’t a trend I expect to end here. I’m happy to be on under 312.5 runs in this one.
