CPL 2020 – St Lucia Zouks vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

We have another double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday and it gets going with the two sides who had Tuesday off battling it out when the top two in the table leaving Tarouba meet as the Trinbago Knight Riders take on the St Lucia Zouks.

Both these sides have made very positive starts to their campaigns and a win here will not only have them well placed to make the semi-final, but in a great position to go on and top the table and in theory get the easier route to the final.

St Lucia Zouks

In all these franchise tournaments there is also a team who doesn’t have a deep array of world class superstars who go under the radar and announce themselves as dark horses and in this CPL season that tag has fallen to the St Lucia Zouks. They have won three of their opening four matches, which is three on the spin after they were beaten in their first game. Critics will point to the rain helping them in the first of those wins but there was no assistance given in the latter two victories.

The big surprise with the Zouks so far has been how accomplished they have been with the bat. When you look down their line up there isn’t too many superstars with the willow in this format of the game. If they continue to put up a decent amount of runs then they are likely to remain dangerous because they have most of the bases covered with the ball, especially here at the Queens Park Oval which has fresher wickets than the Brian Lara Academy.

Trinbago Knight Riders

It has been a perfect start to the season for the Trinbago Knight Riders as they have won their opening three matches and haven’t really been tested to the full in any of them. They are one of the few sides in the competition for whom all of their key men have fired from the off and it is no surprise that they are in the position they are in. Almost everyone in the side has contributed individually to a win and enough have combined collectively to make them a force.

Trinbago are the one side in the competition so far whose batting has stood up to the test in all of their matches and when they put up decent scores they are going to be hard to beat because they have so many quality bowling options. It isn’t just the number of bowling options that they have it is the difference within them. They have an attack that should be effective in all conditions so at this stage of the season they look the team to beat.

Key Men

Scott Kuggeleijn is the leading wicket taker in the tournament even though the trend of the competition has been that spin is the more dangerous so far. That might not be the case at the Queens Park Oval though so the Kiwi could be a tough nut to face here.

Colin Munro is now the leading batsmen in the competition for the Trinbago Knight Riders and he is hitting the ball very sweetly. There are a lot of good batters in this Knight Riders side but he is hitting it as well as anyone and is a big wicket for the opposition.

Betting

This is a ground that is renowned for six hitting so I expect these two big hitting sides to do exactly that and deliver the goods on the over 15.5 sixes line. The day game here on Tuesday had 151 playing 152 and although that is a low scoring contest there were still 20 sixes in the match, which highlights the potential for the six hitting on this ground. There were nowhere near as many in the second game but that was down to two out of form batting line ups being in action.

There is nothing out of form about either of these two teams. Both were hitting big numbers of sixes at the Brian Lara Academy so it stands to reason that at this smaller venue they will continue to clear the ropes. Both teams have hitters a fairly long way down their order and of course this is a day game so the ball is likely to naturally fly further. 15.5 sounds like a high line but with the Zouks averaging just under six sixes an innings, one of which was only five overs, and Trinbago going at eight an innings on a bigger ground, this line should be covered here.
