CPL 2020 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday and it starts off with the runaway leaders Trinbago Knight Riders going up against the bottom of the pile St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The Knight Riders have already qualified for the knockout stages and for them it is about finishing top of the pile. A win here will put them within one more victory of securing that. The Patriots need to win their last three matches and hope Jamaica don’t win two of their last three to make it through.

Trinbago Knight Riders

It is beginning to look more and more like the only thing that can beat the Trinbago Knight Riders is their own complacency, although there is no sign of that setting in just yet. If anything the Knight Riders are getting stronger. A reason for that would be that on the few times they have been in trouble an individual has stepped up and got them out of the mire. It is things like that which make a team think they are invincible and gives them a lot of confidence.

The simple truth to it all is that they have the deepest batting line up in the competition, the majority of whom are in decent touch, and they have the best bowling attack with the biggest number of options that makes them hard to face on any surface they play on. They have won games setting a score and they have won them chasing too. There really doesn’t look like there are any holes in this side at present.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have struggled to bat well throughout the tournament and even on the odd occasion that they have batted well, like in their latest match on Sunday, they seem to run into an unstoppable force and still get beaten. You can always tell when a side knows their weakness and is running out of ideas on how to fix it because they will panic and change the line up, which is what happened to the Patriots in that last game.

To be fair to them it worked because they put up more runs than they have been doing, but as is so often the case when the work goes into fixing the weakness the strength gets forgotten and stops working. The Patriots are in a dire position here so you would like to think they will approach this match with nothing to lose and go out and play their shots and give it everything they have got in the field. Ultimately though the truth is they do not have the strengths required for the exam paper they’ve been faced with.

Key Men

Sunil Narine returned to action on Tuesday and you would think that he will be a key man over the remainder of the competition. He is the free spirit that gets them off to fast starts with the bat and he is still feared with the ball.

Evin Lewis needs to be the one to lead this St Kitts and Nevis Patriots side with the bat. All of the spinners apart from Narine naturally turn the ball into the left-hander so he should be able to get them away easier than his teammates.

Betting

I’m expecting the Trinbago Knight Riders to win the match but I’m always a little uneasy backing sides when they have played the day before when they are taking on teams who had that day off. A better way of getting with the Knight Riders without having to worry about them tiring or fading the longer the match goes could well be to take them to make the highest first six over score, and that is how I’m going to play this match.

Trinbago are free spirits in the first six overs with Lendl Simmons and Sunil Narine pinning their ears back and letting it fly while Colin Munro doesn’t slow proceedings down any when he comes in. St Kitts and Nevis have struggled throughout the powerplay this season and I don’t see that changing against the Trinbago array of spinners and clever seamers that they utilise. The Patriots don’t have great spin options so they often have to use some seam in the first six and that will be like a red rag to a bull for the Knight Riders. I expect Trinbago to lead after six overs.
