CPL 2021 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Saint Lucia Kings Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League heads into another rest day on Friday with a double header of action on Thursday which begins with two of the lower ranked sides in the CPL 2021 table battling it out when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the Saint Lucia Kings.

These two sides go into the match in fourth and sixth respectively so they are both going to need to put a run together to ensure they make it through to the semi-finals. They will both want that run to begin with a win here.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

There has been a little bit of symmetry to the season of the Guyana Amazon Warriors so far. They have played twice against the Trinbago Knight Riders and beaten them both times, including holding their nerve against them in a Super Over on Wednesday, while they have played two matches against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and lost both of those games. The Patriots do look on another level to everything else in the competition to date though so we shouldn’t really hold that against them.

The big surprise with the Amazon Warriors has been their batting. It hasn’t really fired at all in this tournament yet but there are some good players in their order so you would expect them to come good at some point. The longer they go without putting up big totals you wonder if they will keep on winning because it puts an awful lot of strain on their bowling. That has coped so far in the two matches they have won but how long that lasts remains to be seen.

Saint Lucia Kings

The Saint Lucia Kings have been incredibly up and down during this tournament. They were absolutely pathetic in their opening match against the Jamaica Tallawahs but rebounded strongly to win their second match before slumping to another ordinary defeat in their third match against the Trinbago Knight Riders, the team they played in the match before. The beaten finalists of last season really need to raise their game else they’re in danger of getting cut adrift here.

The big thing the Kings could do with is runs from their top order. To date all that happened is they have got themselves into a bit of a mess at the early stage of their innings and then haven’t been able to recover as much as they have needed to, despite the best efforts of one or two down the order. As key bowlers come back though they are likely to restrict sides better, which in turn will ease some of the pressure on their batsmen.

Key Men

Mohammad Hafeez continues to impress with the bat and the ball in this tournament and with this being the third day this pitch has been used his bowling his likely to come even more into its own as we go through the match.

Keswick Williams returned for the last game and immediately the Saint Lucia Kings’ death bowling looked a lot more secure than it did previously. There’s a chance the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran will be in at the death here so those overs from the seamer will be important.

Betting

This pitch has played quite tough in the afternoon matches so far and I don’t see any reason why that would change in this match. I say that because it appeared to start out very dry and although in the evening the dew makes it play much better, there will be none of that around in this early game. The other reason why I say it is I think it is fair to say that both teams look better with the ball rather than the bat at the minute so I’m expecting a low scoring match here.

So far the early matches on this pitch have yielded totals of 158/7 vs 131/7 and two scores of 138 so it isn’t easy to score runs and with the mystery in these two bowling attacks I’m not expecting a free scoring match. The runs line for this match is 294.5 which you would say usually would be a little low but actually here I think it might be a shade high given what we’ve seen with the pitch and the scores we’ve already seen on it. I’ll play the under on that line.
