CPL 2021 – Saint Lucia Kings vs Barbados Royals Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the Caribbean Premier League regular season on Sunday and it concludes with a triple header of CPL 2021 action which gets underway with a clash between the Saint Lucia Kings and the Barbados Royals.

These two met on Saturday afternoon and the Kings picked up a huge win for their top four hopes. That eliminated the Barbados Royals from qualifying credentials so this is a much better match for the team in light blue rather than royal blue.

Saint Lucia Kings

After their win over the Barbados Royals on Saturday the equation is a very simple one for the Saint Lucia Kings here. If they win this match they will be semi-final bound on Tuesday. They can still qualify for the knockout stages with a defeat but they would be needing the Jamaica Tallawahs to lose later in the day. They can take that out of play by winning this match, and were they to do so they would move into the top two ahead of the later matches.

The big thing for the Kings is that even though they beat the Royals on Saturday there is more to come from them when you consider that their leading scorer this season, Roston Chase, failed to trouble the scorers. A couple of bowling options weren’t needed in that win either so there is a little bit in hand for the Saint Lucia outfit as they go about getting the win which will ensure they make the knockout stages for the second season in a row.

Barbados Royals

This has been a truly ordinary campaign for the Barbados Royals, one which will end here regardless of the outcome in this match. They just haven’t been able to find any consistency in their play and their inability to hold their nerve in the pressure situations has found themselves out. The Royals’ haven’t done a lot right this season and you can always tell when a team is struggling because nothing stays the same in their approach.

The Barbados Royals haven’t been able to get off to great starts with the bat and they have been pretty ordinary at the end of their innings with the ball which means that even on the times they have got themselves into a good position it hasn’t done them any good because they have seen their hard work go to waste. The good thing for Barbados as far as this match is concerned is that they can play with a bit of freedom and express themselves here.

Key Men

Saint Lucia Kings will want as many of their big players in form heading into the semi-finals as they can get so if Andre Fletcher can explode into life here and boost his form it would give the Kings a real positive heading into Tuesday.

All eyes might be on Hayden Walsh Jr here. He has bowled well for the last few months but fell out of this Barbados side in the middle part of the season but came back on Saturday and delivered the goods with the bat and ball. With the World T20 five weeks away he should get another chance to show his worth.

Betting

This match isn’t the easiest to bet on because we have one of those situations where one team which has to win plays a team who doesn’t have anything on the line and as ever when this is the case the team who has to win are a good deal shorter in the betting than they probably should be. Barbados Royals just don’t play the key moments well enough for me to side with them but at the same time I don’t really want to get involved in a team under pressure.

The bet I like here is for there to be more than 13.5 sixes. There were 16 of them in their stop-start match on Saturday and in that match clean hitters such as Andre Fletcher, Roston Chase and Glenn Phillips didn’t hit a single six so there should be more to come from the two teams. There were one or two others who didn’t do much damage as well and on a pitch which should be as fresh as it can be and at its best on a day where it has three matches on it, I like the over here.
