CPL 2021 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Sunday sees the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the second day in succession after the sides met on Saturday.

The home side St Kitts and Nevis won on Saturday and will be looking for a third straight win with victory here. Guyana will be looking for their second win of the campaign after they opened their season with a positive result.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Just quietly the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are emerging as early title contenders. We saw home advantage have a huge effect on the tournament last year and the Patriots will be hoping to replicate that this time around. They have won their opening two matches and they have done it very comfortably. They haven’t always been flashy but they are getting the job done and that is all that matters to them at this stage.

We’ve seen four of their top five deliver the goods in the tournament so far and you know Chris Gayle isn’t going to fail forever so the batting looks in a very good place for the Patriots. There is a little bit of work to do with the ball but they went well enough against Guyana on Saturday and if they keep adding a little bit more to their game on each occasion that they are on show then they are not going to be far away when the business end comes along.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

I think after their win in their opening match, the Guyana Amazon Warriors will have been disappointed to slip up in their second game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and are likely to be out to make up for that loss here. Guyana weren’t thrashed or anything like that but you felt the Patriots always had them where they wanted them so the Amazon Warriors do need to improve in this one if they are to pick up the victory.

Guyana were very impressive with the ball in the win over Trinbago Knight Riders. They weren’t as good in that department on Saturday though and that is where the improvement needs to come from. The other thing that would help is if a couple of their top order batsmen can get off to a decent start. They certainly have the finishers in their ranks but they don’t want them at the crease too early so some solid contributions at the top will help.

Key Men

Evin Lewis showed all his class in the first meeting between these two sides on Saturday and with such a quick turnaround there is nothing to suggest that he won’t fill his boots again here. He offered controlled aggression on Saturday and looked much the better for it.

Mohammad Hafeez scored runs and bowled four very economical overs when these two met on Saturday and there is a case for him going up the order. His off spin to Lewis could be potentially important and possibly Gayle should a wicket fall.

Betting

It is never easy to bet on a match when the two teams bet so recently. The tendency is to bet on a repeat outcome but the motivation of the team who loses is usually higher and so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the Guyana Amazon Warriors turned the tables and won this match. There isn’t exactly a huge amount between themselves and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots anyway. Bookmakers can’t split these and I can’t really either.

As with the earlier game in the day though, the wides line looks very low to me at 10.5. When these two played on Saturday there were 23 wides, 15 from the Patriots and eight from the Amazon Warriors. I mentioned in the write up for the other match that these wides aren’t a coincidence, they are a factor of the short boundaries and the need to push the line to keep the ball out of the arc of the big hitting batsmen. That isn’t going to change here so I expect to see this line covered once again.
