CPL 2021 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday and it starts with the CPL 2021 hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots taking on the Jamaica Tallawahs in the latest key game in the competition.

The Patriots remain on top of the table but head into this match off the back of two successive defeats while the Tallawahs sit outside the top four spots now and really need to get their season back on track quickly.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots looked like they were going to emulate the Trinbago Knight Riders and go through the season unbeaten and with a perfect record when they opened up the campaign with five wins in succession, however the Saint Lucia Kings have exposed them a little by doing the double over them and so we have a Patriots side who have taken a couple of punches to the nose and need to come out firing again here.

While the Patriots’ losses have both been to the Saint Lucia Kings there is no need to panic but should they be beaten in this game then the concern wheels could start turning. When that concern does begin it probably comes in the form of their bowling attack which has just leaked a few too many runs for comfort throughout the competition. Their batting dried up a little in the last couple of matches but you fancy that can still come good.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Jamaica Tallawahs have got themselves into a bit of a mess now. They have lost their last three matches and you would have to say that they haven’t really been much of a feature in any of them which will be the most disappointing thing. The Tallawahs are finding the pressure building up on themselves but we shouldn’t forget that this is a franchise which has been underachieving for a while now so this should not be completely unexpected.

The problem in the last two matches has been their batting. They made it to 144-7 in their second to last outing but they were 15-5 at one point and four wickets went equally as quickly in another very tame defeat on Tuesday. That time they couldn’t recover the situation and were rolled over for 92 and that unit needs to come good very quickly if they are to have any chance of being around when the knockout stages takes place.

Key Men

Were this a night match then you’d be looking at a batsman as a key man but I think it needs to be a spinner given what we’ve seen in these day matches so Fabian Allen could have a massive say in the outcome of this match. Not only will be bowl four overs of spin but he can launch the spinners out of the park.

Imad Wasim continues to bowl well for the Jamaica Tallawahs and has actually looked good with the bat in both his outings to date. With the batting struggling for form it might be worth getting him up the order and seeing if he can play the big innings to go with his tight four overs with the ball.

Betting

I’m always reluctant to take runs lines that are less than 300 in this competition because the amount of sixes that get hit can bump up the scoring very quickly but we have to temper that with the fact that these pitches have been hard to bat on throughout the day game right through the tournament. That isn’t something that is going to change now we are a couple of weeks into the event either so the 295.5 runs line may well look quite high once the final ball is bowled in this match.

The key thing is that both teams have a number of spin options and they both have a seamer that is adept at changing the pace on the ball too so batting isn’t going to be easy here. There is always a nervousness about taking an under when you are going against the likes of Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell because 20 minutes of any of them can blow it out of the water but none of them are suited by these conditions so I’ve got to think the under is the correct play here.
