CPL 2021 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday with the first of the two CPL 2021 matches seeing the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

These two sides have both made mixed starts to their season so they could both do with the win and the two points that will come along with it so we should expect this to be a very competitive match between two of the better teams in the tournament.

Trinbago Knight Riders

This is clearly not going to be the emphatic season for the Trinbago Knight Riders that it was when they stormed to the title last term but their win over the Saint Lucia Kings on Tuesday levelled up their tally for the campaign and means that they can look for a win which would put daylight between them and the bottom two in the competition. That is important as the initial of any term is to make the finals and early points on the board help with that.

Trinbago have won a couple of matches and lost a couple. The issue seems to be with their batting. It is not dominating anything like we are used to seeing it do and that is a major surprise because we are used to seeing them plunder the ball everywhere and on a tiny ground such as Warner Park and on pitches which in the main haven’t been too bad for batting a lot more was expected. They are getting it done with the ball however.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors won their opening match but have lost the two they have played since then. The win is significant here because it came against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the opening match of the season so they know that they can beat this opponent. The two defeats since then have both been against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the early pacesetters in the competition so we probably shouldn’t hold those against them just yet.

In those two matches the Guyana bowling let them down. They failed to take wickets in the first of them and the Patriots punish any side who allow them to get away from them. In the second one they controversially failed to defend 166 when there were some real shambles going on in the middle of their bowling innings. Something needs to change with the ball in this match and beyond else this could be a long campaign.

Key Men

Tim Seifert has started the competition very strongly and looks as confident as anyone with the bat for the Trinbago Knight Riders. He has scored of 40* and 37 in the last two matches and made 23 in the opener against this opposition.

Mohammad Hafeez is playing an excellent hand for the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the minute. He is scoring runs whether in the middle order or at the top and his four overs are being quite economical. He will be a key man here.

Betting

There isn’t an enormous amount that I like in this match after the shenanigans of the other day when the Guyana Amazon Warriors were last on show in this tournament. If all things were equal they might be a price here but they need to sort out the makeup of their bowling attack before I get involved in them anyway. Regular readers will know that I’m no fan of betting on sides who play the day before especially in these energy zapping conditions.

There is a bet I’m happy to have a small bet on though. That is on Tim Seifert to be the leading scorer for the Trinbago Knight Riders. There aren’t many who have looked good with the bat for the defending champions. Kieron Pollard now and again looks ok but the rest look out of form completely so the 9/1 on the Kiwi to top score looks a standout bet. If there is a negative then it is that he has been batting a little low down but the Guyana attack matches up well to Pollard which might leave Seifert with a bit of a free go at the top score here.
