CPL 2021 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Saint Lucia Kings Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League is back on Tuesday and it returns with another CPL 2021 double header, one which begins with the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders going up against the Saint Lucia Kings.

These two met on Sunday so there is a pretty swift return meeting for the two. Saint Lucia won that match by five runs so the Knight Riders will be eager to get their revenge here and level out their ledger as they approach the halfway point of the competition.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders have been a little hit and miss in this tournament so far. They began it with a defeat to the Guyana Amazon Warriors but then got up and running for the season with a relatively comfortable win over the Barbados Royals, but even in that game they were trailing for the first two thirds of the Barbados innings before turning it around. Then came the defeat to the Saint Lucia Kings so this is a match the Knight Riders could do with winning.

It has been the batting which has let the Knight Riders down so far. They failed to chase down 143 in their first match and didn’t get 157 in their last game against the Kings. They only lost three wickets in that match too so that was a bit of a bizarre run chase it has to be said. There is no shortage of quality in the batting so they just need it to come together soon. If it does you’d imagine they’ll be fine because their bowling is delivering the goods.

Saint Lucia Kings

Full credit has to go to the Saint Lucia Kings for getting over the line in that second match. To bounce back from what was a complete horror show in their opening match with a win in their second one probably wouldn’t have been beyond their dreams. Unlike in that first game they bowled a lot better in the second one and ultimately deserved their victory. That win means that they can put their opening defeat behind them, although they are going to have a negative run rate for a while so the effects are still there.

When you consider they were without arguably their two most effective bowlers in that match, whether by design or choice we’re not really sure, that was an even more impressive effort. They should take a lot of confidence from that and go again here but they will need to have a little more potency. You would imagine if they only take three wickets in this match the Knight Riders will punish them. On the flip side of that, they are probably due more with the bat themselves.

Key Men

Colin Munro might feel like he owes the Trinbago Knight Riders a performance in this match. I say that because his 40* from 47 balls in the previous match against the Saint Lucia Kings wasn’t really what was required over the course of the afternoon.

We’re on a fresh pitch for this double header so there is no reason to expect Tim David not to continue to deliver the goods with the bat. He has top scored in both matches for the Saint Lucia Kings and if his teammates continue to struggle or misfire his innings will be crucial.

Betting

I’m going to target the sixes in this match. I say that because the sixes line for this one is 14.5 and there were 16 when the two teams met on Sunday on a pitch that was turning square come the end of the contest. This being a fresh pitch won’t have any issues with excess turn or anything like that so I expect the big shots to flow once again. It isn’t like we need anything different from the two teams because they covered this line in their first meeting.

It covered with Kieron Pollard not hitting a single six and Sunil Narine not even getting to the crease so there should in theory be even more to come from the two sides. Key players like Rakheem Cornwall and Lendl Simmons at the top of both orders haven’t got going yet and if they fire here they can nail a bunch of sixes. We’ve seen throughout the competition how tiny the boundaries are and I expect these two teams to exploit that once again.
