CPL 2022 – Barbados Tridents vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

The CPL 2022 season has left St Kitts and Nevis and heads for St Lucia when it resumes with a double header of action on Wednesday. The first match at the Daren Sammy Stadium sees the Barbados Royals taking on the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Both these sides came out of the first venue of the competition unbeaten and will be looking to maintain that over the course of this match. Whoever is able to do that will enjoy a few hours at least on top of the table.

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Royals are perfect for their season with two wins from their opening two matches. That is quite some turnaround because they have only picked up three victories in each of the last two campaigns. If the Royals can pick up a third here they will be nicely placed to push on and make it into the finals even though this is a season where they won’t get to play a single home game and are slightly disadvantaged by that as a result.

Barbados have done good things with the bat in both of their matches so far and that is important because they’ll need those batters the longer this competition goes on. They have also been decent enough with the ball, although there is the suspicion or concern that they will struggle in that department the longer the tournament progresses and the pitches slow up. For now though they look like a team in decent enough order.

Trinbago Knight Riders

I think most people think the Trinbago Knight Riders are the team to beat this season and hopefully they get the chance to show us why that is the case here. They won the only match they have played so far in the tournament fairly routinely but they weren’t really tested in that game. It might be that the squad they have put together is so strong that they won’t be tested very often in the tournament but it would be nice to see what they’ve got if they are challenged.

Trinbago have some insane power in their batting department but whether they will need to use it too often remains to be seen because they also have most bases covered with the ball as well. If the pitch has some pace and bounce in it they have a couple of good quick bowlers and if it is slow or has something in it for the spinners then they certainly tick that box as well. You sense it will take a very good performance the Knight Riders.

Key Players

Kyle Mayers has delivered the goods with the bat in the opening match and then won the Barbados Royals the second game with the ball. He is one of those players who could easily cement their place in the T20 World Cup in this tournament and will be expected to go well here.

The Daren Sammy Stadium is usually a good track for batting so to negate that the four overs of Sunil Narine will be pretty crucial. He could well open the batting as well so you get the feeling the wily spinner will be a key man here.

Betting

It looks like we are going to have to dodge the weather here but the forecasters have been wrong before and hopefully they are again. If they are I’m expecting plenty of big hitting in this match between two teams who certainly don’t lack for hitting power. Barbados Royals’ attack has a hittable element to it as well. Even someone like Alzarri Joseph was smacking it to all parts in the previous game and there are plenty more bigger hitters than him in this Trinbago side.

The sixes line for this match is 15.5 and usually the wicket is very good for batting at the Daren Sammy Stadium and when you consider there are four days of action on the ground over the next week or so it would be a bad thing if the pitches start off playing badly. This is a ground where there are a lot of sixes. There were more than 20 in the last T20 international here last summer and I’m expecting to see at least 16 more if the weather plays ball.
