CPL 2022 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

Two teams who are yet to win in the CPL 2022 season will attempt to do so in the second match of the competition on Sunday when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Guyana have only played one match in which they were fairly well beaten by the Jamaica Tallawahs. The Patriots have played three games and only have a washout to their name. They can ill afford to go a fourth match without a win.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors struggled with the bat in that opening match. That isn’t good because if there was going to be a concern over them this term it would be in how much power they have in their top order. They were two down inside the first three overs and only going at five per over when Shimron Hetmyer was out in the first ball of over 15. To their credit they doubled their score from there which shows that they don’t lack for depth with the bat, but they do need a better start.

To their credit, even though they didn’t put any sort of score on the board, they almost defended it because their trio of spinners were exceptional. They bowled 12 overs for a combined 3-56 however the two seamers they used undid all their hard work and were too expensive, especially at the death. That was always going to be another issue for Guyana to overcome and it might be worth them selecting Keemo Paul to give them a sixth bowling option without weakening the batting too much.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

I don’t think anyone needs me to tell them that this isn’t the start to their title defence that the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots would have wanted to make. They lost their opening two matches without really being much of a feature in them and then watched on as the rains arrived to deny them any play in their third match. We are still at fairly early days in this tournament but a fourth match without a win would start piling the pressure on the champions.

If St Kitts are going to get themselves back into this campaign then they are going to need to start coming up trumps with the ball. Their two bowling efforts to date have been extremely ordinary and on a ground of this size you’re not going to get away with that. They do have the power and depth with the bat to get their bowlers out of trouble but it is never a good formula to be conceding so many runs, so all eyes will be on the bowlers.

Key Men

Paul Stirling opened the batting for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the first game without too much success but if he can get them firing at the top he could go a long way to winning Guyana the match. With so many left-handers in the Patriots side his off spin could be useful too.

While his powers at this level are beginning to wane, to the credit of Dwayne Bravo he rarely shirks bowling the important overs. That is admirable but if the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are to get their season back on track they need him to be bowling at his best.

Betting

The early game has highlighted there is a short boundary here and with both these teams having enough lefties in their ranks I expect that to come into play a lot over the course of this match. Of course we need to dodge the rank which is becoming rather annoying in this tournament but any dampness on the surface could only help the sixes here as it would negate the spin threat that the Guyana Amazon Warriors provide.

We’ve seen that the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ bowling isn’t going great guns at the minute so although Guyana struggled up top with the bat in their first game they could get an easier time of it in this one and if they set the game up for their middle and lower order they have the firepower to crack a number of sixes. The sixes line in this match is 14.5 which is generally covered more often than it isn’t on this ground and I expect it to be covered here too.
