CPL 2022 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday and it comes in the evening where the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the Trinbago Knight Riders in what is a massive clash for the away side.

This is the final match of the season for the Knight Riders so it is one they have to win else they are out of the competition. Guyana don’t have to win but they will qualify for the finals with a match to come if they do come out on top here.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

You got the feeling that the Guyana Amazon Warriors were always going to come home with a wet sail this season because they were the last home team to play their matches on home soil. They headed back to Guyana knowing that they needed to win three of their four home games to have any chance of making it through and having won their first two, they are now one win away from making it through to the finals.

While one win will get them through to the finals, such is the tightness of this table a win here will move them from fifth to second and then a win in their final game will ensure they go from alsorans in the competition to having two bites at making it through to the final. Their batting has come good at the right time on home soil and there is probably more to come from them in that department. Their bowling has also tightened up so they are looking a tidy unit all of a sudden.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders go into their final match knowing that they have to win it else their season is done. Nobody could have seen them being in this position when the campaign begun because on paper they looked to have the strongest squad in the competition by far. If ever there was a reminder that cricket isn’t played on paper it is their season but they are not done yet and a win here would leave them only needing three more to justify their strength.

If that is going to happen then their batters just have to come together. There was a spell where it looked like they were getting it together with the bat in hand and they won two on the trot but two defeats from two in their last two matches have left their challenge hanging by a thread. They seem to be leaving themselves a lot to do in rather simple looking run chases so the time might have come where they need to top load the batting and get ahead of the rate.

Key Players

Shai Hope has been excellent in the two matches in Guyana. His role would normally be to bat the majority of the innings at a fair pace and allow the bigger hitters to thrive around him. He’s actually hit 60 off 45 and 59 from 30 and another such innings will have the Amazon Warriors in great shape.

This was once the home ground of Nicholas Pooran and the Trinbago Knight Riders really need something from their explosive batter. If he can catch fire against his former team then it would be hard to see Trinbago not posting a decent total.

Betting

Sixes has been a trend on this ground since we arrived here and given that we’ve only got one match on the day here I expect to see plenty more of them in this one. The dew has contributed significantly to what we have seen in terms of the big hitting so far in these night matches and so I see no reason why the sixes won’t continue to flow, particularly when you consider just who is hitting the ball for us in this match.

We have the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd and Odean Smith all swinging from the hip for us in this match and it probably only needs a couple of those to come off and then the support cast around them to deliver the goods too and we’ll easily get the 14.5 sixes line covered. The two night matches on this ground have yielded 21 and 18 sixes so this line looks achievable.
