CPL 2022 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs St Lucia Kings Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header in the CPL 2022 season on Saturday and it begins with a huge match for both teams when the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots meet the St Lucia Kings in a game neither can really afford to lose.

The Patriots go into this match in third place in the table but they will have just two matches left after this one so they can’t really afford to lose. St Lucia Kings are second from bottom and will know they need to get a winning run going.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

This clearly hasn’t been the title defence that St Kitts and Nevis Patriots would have wanted but they did win their previous match and they will hope that is going to launch a springboard for them to push into the top four and go into the finals where they can attempt to defend the title. They need some consistency though and there hasn’t been much of that in their performances in recent times but 1-11 they look a better outfit than they have shown.

The Patriots’ win last time out was a rain affected one, although they had at least restricted Jamaica to a score you would think they would have been able to chase down had rain not come around. The good thing about the run chase when they were able to go at it was that their top order did the job. They haven’t really offered up enough runs at the top of the order so if those players can continue to deliver it would certainly help.

St Lucia Kings

The St Lucia Kings probably won’t need too much motivating for this match. They don’t just sit lower in the table than they would want but they also face up to the team who denied them the title last season. They have already overwhelmed the Patriots once this season and will be looking to do it for a second time here. If they can win this match then they will move above the Patriots in the table and would have three matches left to build on that.

I think the big thing the Kings need to do is manage their batting innings better. In the last couple of matches they have got off to brilliant starts but then lost their way in the second 10 overs so if they can do something about that then it would be a massive help to their chances. One thing which might not help is the impending departure of Tim David but Adam Hose is a decent enough replacement if he hits the ground running.

Key Players

Evin Lewis was picked for the West Indies T20 World Cup squad and we saw glimpses of his class in that shortened run chase against Jamaica last time out. The Patriots need a lot more from their opener throughout the competition.

Johnson Charles was a more surprising name in that squad selected to go to Australia for the T20 World Cup but he is there off the back of a wonderful first half of this tournament. He can show everyone that he isn’t just making up the numbers here.

Betting

The trend throughout this competition is that scoring has been difficult in the day matches and I don’t see that changing now we have moved to the Brian Lara Stadium I don’t expect that to change. This has often been a tricky ground to bat on and in the heat and humidity of a Saturday morning in Trinidad I don’t see a reason why that is going to change, especially as we are only here for a couple of days so they don’t need to have prepared the entire square to be pristine.

When you look through the bowling options of these two sides there are a number of reliable bowlers, not least Rashid Khan, and then looking at the batting while there are capable outfits there, there isn’t too much in the way of form. St Lucia tend to lose their way a bit once the openers go while the Patriots haven’t really got much going all season with the bat. That all makes me think the under on the runs is the wise move in this one.
