CPL 2022 – St Lucia Kings vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the Caribbean Premier League on Thursday evening sees the last home side Guyana Amazon Warriors looking to enhance their qualifying hopes when they go up against the St Lucia Kings.

The Amazon Warriors know they need to win two of their last three matches to have any chance of progressing while the Kings sit in a good position in the table and will all but secure a top two finish with a win here.

St Lucia Kings

The St Lucia Kings started slowly this season but their home leg of the competition came at the right time to push them into contention once again and now they are odds on to finish in the top two and give themselves two bites at making the final of the competition once again. One win from their last two matches is likely to be enough to finish second and take on the Barbados Royals in the first qualifier next week. Two wins definitely does it.

The Kings have been going along at a fairly serene pace in recent times but the one issue they have had throughout the campaign has been maximising the starts their openers have given them. Their innings have lost their way in the final 10 overs a little too often for my liking. The positive is the longer the season has gone on the better their bowlers have got. The form of their openers is another positive as well.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors opened up their home campaign with a good win over the Jamaica Tallawahs on Wednesday evening where they were the beneficiaries of one of the most incredible blitzes at the back end of an innings as I’ve ever seen. We’ve seen enough in the matches on this ground now to show the Amazon Warriors that if they can keep wickets in hand at the top of the order they can do some serious damage at the back end.

The Amazon Warriors’ bowling still leaks a little too much air for my liking and they kind of fell over the line against Jamaica on Wednesday as a result of that, although from where they were with four overs left in their batting innings they would certainly have taken that. A win here would move the Amazon Warriors into within a win of qualifying for the next stage of the competition and with the finals on their home ground they certainly don’t lack for an incentive for that.

Key Players

Johnson Charles could do some real damage for the St Lucia Kings here. He is scoring very well in this tournament and we’ve seen the ropes are accessible so the St Lucia opener could be a key man for his side here.

Odean Smith was absolutely brutal in the previous match and it will be interesting to see if he goes up the order a notch or two. He also bowled the final over under intense pressure and delivered the goods so Guyana could do with him going well here.

Betting

We’ve seen 21 and 20 sixes in the last two matches on this ground and that is definitely a trend I expect to continue here because I think the Guyana Amazon Warriors have basically told themselves the only way they are getting back into this tournament is by being aggressive and playing the style of cricket their supporters would want them to play. We saw the evidence of that on Wednesday evening and I don’t see a whole lot changing here. If anything there are more sixes to come from the Guyana side here.

There are certainly no shortage of six hitters in the St Lucia Kings side and you would imagine they will be looking to get on the front foot early in this match and do some damage of their own so I certainly like the sixes here, especially with the dew making controlling the ball a little more difficult for the bowlers. When these two sides met in St Lucia there were 18 sixes and I expect to see a 13.5 line covered in this one.
