CPL 2022 – St Lucia Kings vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The second leg of the CPL 2022 double header on Thursday evening sees the current home side St Lucia Kings playing host to the table topping Barbados Royals in what should be another enjoyable match in the competition.

Both these teams played in St Lucia on Wednesday and were winners so they should carry a fair bit of confidence into this match with them. The Royals will be nicely placed for the finals with a win here while St Lucia do their hopes no harm with one either.

St Lucia Kings

You would have to say the St Lucia Kings made heavy work of getting the better of the Jamaica Tallawahs on Wednesday evening but the only thing that really matters is that they did come out on top in it. They will now look to build on that win. The Kings know that they have this game and two more home matches remaining this season and if they can win the lot they will do their hopes of making the semi-finals the world of good.

I think it is fair to say that we still haven’t seen the best of the St Lucia side with the bat this season but as they win more matches the pressure on them will ease and in turn they will offer up some much better cricket. They have gone pretty well with the ball though and that isn’t too much of a surprise because they are a team who looked to recruit to best serve their home ground which they are playing on in this match.

Barbados Royals

It is pretty amazing that three matches in the Barbados Royals have matched their win total for each of the last two seasons. They have won all three games and in truth they haven’t really been threatened in any of them. They have gone incredibly well with the bat and got the job done with the ball as well and have already done a bit of a job on the St Lucia Kings this season so Barbados will be going into this full of confidence.

I wasn’t sure going into the season whether the Barbados attack would suit the pitches in this tournament but there have been no issues regarding that so far. Their last two wins were rain affected but they had the job done long before the rain arrived. One area of interest now will be how they go chasing a score. The only time they have chased in this tournament was against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in another match which was rain impacted.

Key Players

We saw why David Wiese has made a decent career in the franchise world in the previous St Lucia Kings match. He bowled some important overs with the ball and then got the job done with the bat as well.

David Miller didn’t have a great time of it at The Hundred but he showed his class in the win over the Trinbago Knight Riders on Wednesday and will be looking to back up his 50 in that match with another important knock here.

Betting

The sixes keep on landing in this tournament and so I’m going to keep on backing them and with the line here only 13.5 I see no reason not to keep going with them. When these two met in St Kitts earlier in the competition the Barbados Royals smacked seven sixes while St Lucia hit six sixes in the nine overs they faced. In their matches on Wednesday on this ground the Royals bashed nine sixes and St Lucia hit eight.

That highlights the potential for the sixes here and although we struggled to get over the line in the earlier match on Thursday, I’ve repeatedly said throughout the tournament that these night matches see the ball coming onto the bat better and the dew makes bowling harder which in turn allows the sixes to flow. There is serious depth in these two batting units. St Lucia had Scott Kuggeleijn at 10 in their last match while Jason Holder was initially on the scorecard at eight for Barbados. With deep batting and little in the way of mystery spin I expect the sixes to flow here.
