CPL 2022 – St Lucia Kings vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday evening sees the home side St Lucia Kings play host to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in what is a straight repeat of the CPL 2021 final.

These two teams will begin the match in third and sixth in the table but things are so tightly bunched that the winners will end the night in the top four and controlling their destiny for the remainder of the competition. The losers will be battling for some form to make it through.

St Lucia Kings

The St Lucia Kings headed home looking to make good ground in the competition but three matches into their home stretch and they have only won one of those matches and will now need to pick up wins in Trinidad and Guyana id they are going to make it into the latter stages of the tournament. The defeat on Saturday evening might well have been the hardest one to take because they were in such a good position after 10 overs of the match but completely lost their way thereafter and were beaten pretty tamely in the end.

St Lucia need to let their batting go here. They are struggling a little with the ball at the minute and so they have to maximise their batting innings. Their openers got them off to a great start on Saturday night but then things fell away in the middle before a bit of cameo at the back end gave them something to defend. It might be worth shifting one of the power hitters up to keep the intensity going rather than letting a stale patch come in.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The defending champions haven’t really got anything going in their title defence so far but they do come into this match off the back of a win, although how they got home against the Guyana Amazon Warriors only they might know. They needed 22 from the final over but were given gift and gift from Romario Shepherd and got home. That win will have papered over a lot of cracks within the Patriots but it should provide them with a bit of confidence and belief that they can win from any situation.

The big surprise for St Kitts and Nevis is that their batting hasn’t really come to the party yet. It is a unit which has international cricketers in their top seven so it shouldn’t be floundering as much as it has done. Their bowling hasn’t been a huge amount better but they have got the job done on a couple of occasions only for their batting to let them down. This is game six for the Patriots and if six wins are the target to qualify they need to win four of their last five so there isn’t a huge amount of room to move.

Key Players

Johnson Charles has shown that he is in good form in this tournament. He almost carried his bat on Saturday evening but even he slowed up in the second part of the innings. St Lucia Kings need him to catch fire early and stay lit.

Evin Lewis has plenty to prove not just to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots but also to the West Indies camp ahead of the T20 World Cup next month. He has a golden chance on a good wicket to remind everyone what he can do.

Betting

This is another match like the earlier one where we have a team who are well rested against a team who were in action on Saturday evening. Usually I would be taking the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as the fresher side here but I’m not sure I can be taking 10/11 about a team whose only win in five matches was a complete miracle win. It might be that St Lucia find it hard to back up a performance one night later but I’ll let the Patriots win if they are good enough.

Instead I’ll take the same bet I did for the evening match on Saturday which is over 306.5 runs. I’ve mentioned a few times in this tournament that the evening games are better for batting with the dew in play both bringing the ball onto the bat a little better and hampering the control of the bowlers. Saturday evening could have been a whole lot higher scoring than it eventually was but there is enough firepower in both these teams that if a couple of players fire and one or two bat around them we’ll get past 306.5 runs. There isn’t much mystery in either attack so the runs should flow here.
