CPL 2022 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The second leg of the CPL 2022 double header on Wednesday is a massive one for the home side Trinbago Knight Riders who really need to start winning and making use of home advantage. They host the Guyana Amazon Warriors in a match which sees the bottom two going at it.

Trinbago opened up their home leg of the tournament with a tame defeat on Tuesday evening and will be looking to bounce back. Guyana have their home stage to come and any wins prior to that will just make their task a little easier when they get home.

Trinbago Knight Riders

It is turning into one of the bigger mysteries in franchise tournament history as to why the Trinbago Knight Riders are struggling so badly this season. It certainly isn’t a case of their personnel not being good enough because they have elite players throughout the side. Sometimes when there are too many cooks they can all leave it for each other and when that happens they end up doing nothing but there hasn’t been a lot of evidence that has been the case either.

One problem the Knight Riders have is their bowling aside from Sunil Narine just hasn’t got the job done this season. Their seamers have bowled either too short or too wide and teams know that they can sit on Narine because they can cash in via the buffet around him. That has put pressure on their batters and if we are being brutally honest the likes of Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell are showing that their time at this level is coming to an end because Trinbago have got nothing in terms of a score from them all season.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are low down in the table but they have only played four matches and one of those was washed out so their chance to impact the proceedings hasn’t been as strong as that of others. The big disappointment for the Amazon Warriors was that they let a match get away from them against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots which they had won until they delivered a truly horrible final over, but to their credit they got a win on the board last time out.

That win was a good one against the St Lucia Kings and they should be suited by the conditions here in Trinidad so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Guyana can still be a factor in the tournament. A win here will move them into the top four and they still have that home leg to call on. If they are going to push for a spot in the finals then they have to sort out their death bowling, especially when they are bowling second as it is a real weakness at the minute.

Key Players

I called for Nicholas Pooran to take extra responsibility and he did exactly that in the previous match for the Trinbago Knight Riders. Now it would be nice to see him express himself from the start and get his team ahead of the game.

Tabraiz Shamsi doesn’t have a huge amount of time left in the tournament but he could be a key man for the Amazon Warriors in that a lot of the Trinbago bigger hitters do not read spin well so he could be the one to cut through them.

Betting

I’m a little reluctant to get involved in the match outcome for this one because it looked a lot easier to bat in the second innings after the dew in the first night game here on Tuesday but there is a part of me that thinks some of that was down to how bad Trinbago batted against the Barbados Royals. When Nicholas Pooran opened his shoulders he scored quickly so it might just be that the Knight Riders aren’t good enough.

Whether they are or not they will have to back up a performance and a crushing defeat the night before less than 24 hours later which I repeatedly stress is not an easy thing to do. Guyana Amazon Warriors look in good shape to take advantage too. We’ve seen spin lead to good things in the two matches on this ground already and if Paul Stirling plays then Guyana could send down 16 overs of spin if they want to. Guyana look in good nick with the bat and come in here fresh and are overpriced to get the job done if given an even chance with the conditions.
