CPL 2022 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the CPL double header of action on Saturday sees the two big teams in the competition going at it for a second time this term when the Trinbago Knight Riders host the Jamaica Tallawahs at the Brian Lara Stadium.

The Jamaica Tallawahs won the first meeting between the two and will be looking for another win which will have them very nicely placed for a spot in the latter stages. This is the penultimate home match of the season for Trinbago and they really need to make the most of it.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders sit fifth in the table going into this match but they will move up to third if they can find a win here so there is plenty on this one for them. They carry a win from their last match into this one with them but it wasn’t the most convincing win you’ll see. If anything the Guyana Amazon Warriors handed the win to them but if that has given them some confidence and a platform to build from there is no shortage of danger in this Knight Riders side.

The positive from that win over Guyana was that there were signs of life from their batters. They still need more from them, especially given that they should know these conditions well, but they know if they can deliver the goods on the batting front then they have a bowling unit which is going to be hard to get away with the likes of Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein among the better spinners in the competition. They might well need those runs though.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Jamaica Tallawahs snapped out of a two-match losing streak when they became the only team to knock off the Barbados Royals so far in this competition last time out. They fell over the line in that match although when the rain arrived they were absolutely cruising so we probably shouldn’t read too much into that. Another win here will be their fifth from eight matches and they would only need one more to secure a spot in the finals.

The Jamaica bowlers needed to come back to the party after a couple of indifferent outings and they did that in the last game. They will need to build on that performance because there is certainly a case to be made that one or two of the batters are flattering to deceive a little. If they can suddenly bat as one unit then they are going to have every chance of not just winning this match but any that they compete in.

Key Players

Sunil Narine has been spot on with the ball throughout this tournament and looks to have conditions to suit him here so I would expect another four decent overs from him but he has also shown his worth with the bat now too.

It is hard to see the Jamaica Tallawahs winning this match if their captain Rovman Powell doesn’t make a telling contribution with the bat. He could also help the side out by bowling his medium pace to ease the workload on the bowlers.

Betting

Sunil Narine could be a key man for the Trinbago Knight Riders here. I say that because this is the second game on the pitch so there is likely to be something in it for the spinners and there aren’t many better in the competition than Narine and he has already taken 2/11 from his four overs against this opponent this season. He also took 2/9 in the win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out as well.

Narine has also put together runs of 30 and 26 with the bat in the last two matches and as a left hander he might be shoved up the order to get after Imad Wasim in a matchup which should suit the Trinidadian. Even if he isn’t then Jamaica have the resources to get him into bat so when you weigh all that up I’m a little surprised that you can get a performance line of just 31.5 points on the wily spinner. Two wickets gets us home there as does a decent knock with the bat. The over looks fair enough to me.
