CPL 2024 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Royals Tips and Betting Preview

Second spot is at stake in the Caribbean Premier League table on Wednesday night when the CPL 2024 season continues with a clash between the champions Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Royals.

These two sides have both secured their spots in the finals but that second place is coveted as it offers up two chances to make the final should they need it. That should ensure that we get a competitive match here.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have made the most of the home leg of their tournament so far to catapult them up the table. To be fair to the Warriors, they did a very good job in their road matches with three wins and having won their opening two home games they are now in a fantastic position with three more home games to play to push on and ensure they finish in the top two and give themselves either the direct path into the final or a second chance of making it.

Since they have got to Guyana, the Amazon Warriors have relied on their bowlers a lot. The pitches have played very tough in this part of the world so far, especially against the spinners, but Guyana have an attack which looks perfectly suited to this venue. The other thing they have is the odd batter who can just deliver a cameo which takes a par score slightly above that and put more pressure on the opposition so they are going to be tough to beat.

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Royals began this tournament with five wins from six matches and looking like a million dollars and potentially the trophy winners in waiting but things have gone a little pear-shaped for them since they have got to Guyana. They have lost both matches in this venue but they have both been to the St Lucia Kings who are suddenly on top of the pile and looking very good at the minute. It will be interesting to see if they can get back on track here.

The Royals batting has come under pressure in Guyana and so far it hasn’t really lived up to the billing. They have posted scores of 96/9 and 149/8. The pitches here so far haven’t suited their batters and that is a concern because they are unlikely to change and this Guyana attack is better suited to here than anyone. Barbados will either need their own bowlers to get the job done or they are going to need someone to play a cameo which gets them home.

Key Players

Moeen Ali has been terrific with the ball since he arrived in Guyana and he was smart enough to just bad time in the last game which allowed the cameo players around him to do their thing and ensure the Amazon Warriors went unbeaten.

Rakheem Cornwall could be a big player for the Barbados Royals. He is almost certain to bowl four overs on this ground and he will bat at the top of the innings where his team really need a cameo to get them above the rate before the spinners really put the squeeze on.

Betting

The pitches here have been a little up and down but the night games in particular they have been very hard to bat on and I suspect that is a trend that will continue here because I expect the bowlers to dominate the batters in this one. Barbados have really struggled with the bat in the matches that they have played here and Guyana haven’t exactly pulled up trees with the bat on this ground either. We can expect both teams to load with spin so I think the scoring will be low here.

The run line with Bet365 is up at 280.5 which is very high when you consider it is as low as 262.5. That is a decent range of difference. So far the scores here have totalled 244, 193, 243 and 311 so in the main scoring has been really difficult. Given how well Guyana bowl on their own patch and how much Barbados have the potential to struggle against spin I don’t see this being a high scoring match and so I’m happy to get on the under here.
