CPL 2024 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League season continues on Wednesday night when the CPL 2024 competition heads back to Warner Park for the clash between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors.

St Kitts and Nevis play their third home match of this stretch here and will be looking to win it and boost their position in the table. Guyana have played one match which they won and will be out to open their title defence with successive victories.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots looked like they were going to be a more than competitive side when they cruised to victory in their opening game of the campaign but since then things have gone a little on the quiet side for them. They have played two of their five home matches and lost them both, going down in similar fashion in each of them and will know that they could really go with winning two of their last three home games, if not all three, so this is an important match for them.

The Patriots have looked like they can do the business with the bat in hand, although you would expect that when you consider that two of their home games have been at Warner Park. They are yet to show that they can do the job when they have the ball in hand. There is a legitimate excuse in that the pitch at Warner Park is so good and the boundaries are short and all of that but to concede 250 and then fail to defend another 200 score isn’t really good enough and they need to step up in that department.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors got their title campaign off to a winning start when they went to Antigua and beat the Falcons. You would have to say they tried their hardest to lose that match but they got over the line when it looked to be getting away from them and that sort of win always gives a team extra confidence. There have been six days since that match so they have had the chance to assess what they did well and not so well and look to come out stronger here.

The good thing in that opening match was that their lower order got runs when they needed them to. The concern would be that they didn’t bowl particularly well and that is a big issue going into this match on this tiny ground and they certainly didn’t offer up anything to suggest that they have come up with a plan to combat not having Saim Ayub. The Warriors should come on for the run but they might need to because they weren’t great in that first game.

Key Players

Evin Lewis went into this tournament with a point to prove and based on the century he smashed in the previous game the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots opener is certainly doing just that. Another big innings will have his side in a good place here.

Romario Shepherd was certainly a bright spark in the opening match for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. He didn’t take a wicket but bowled three tidy overs and when they needed some fireworks to get back into the match he was the one who provided them.

Betting

I really liked the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots heading into the tournament but their bowling hasn’t lived up to expectations yet and unless that changes the outcome of this match is likely to be resolved by the toss of the coin because whoever chases here will have a strong chance of winning. That isn’t going to be known to us until just before the start so I’m looking for another way to get involved in this game and that comes in the form of the team sixes.

Given the struggles that the Patriots are having with the ball, it makes sense to me to take the Guyana Amazon Warriors to cover a 10.5 sixes line. They hit 13 of them in the only match that they have played so far on a trickier to score on ground than this one against an attack which is more awkward to get after. St Kitts and Nevis have played two matches on this ground and conceded 17 and 12 sixes. This is a powerful batting unit that Guyana have at their disposal and I think there is more than a fair chance they go beyond 10.5 sixes here.
