The first round of matches in the CSA T20 Challenge finish on Sunday afternoon when the Nashua Dolphins take on the Warriors at Kingsmead in Durban. Saturday saw emphatic wins for the Knights and the Titans and the Dolphins will be looking to follow suit.
Dolphins
The Dolphins are expected to go well in this campaign given that they have begun the domestic season strongly but they are missing a couple of key men from last season’s run to the final with David Miller now playing for the Knights and Kevin Pietersen not yet available. Kyle Abbott has moved on as well so it will be interesting to see how the home side get on here.
Importantly they have managed to secure the services of Andile Phehlukwayo and Imran Tahir and those two can be a potent combination with the ball which will give them a chance in almost every match they play. The question will be whether they have the firepower to succeed in this tournament.
Warriors
The Warriors will be looking to build on a disappointing campaign last season. They have bulked up their squad with plenty of T20 experience and they will hope that proves to be the difference. Last year they were too reliant on Colin Ingram and while he’s a world class player they need to balance out their input this year.
They might need to rely on someone else here because Colin Ingram is an injury doubt. He is expected to recover from injury to play here but he hasn’t had much cricket so that isn’t a certainty. JJ Smuts, Colin Ackermann and Andrew Birch could be key.
Betting
I fancy the Warriors might improve this season but I’m with the home side here. They have enough experience with the bat and the ball to get the job done. I say it repeatedly but in T20 matches I want to be on the better and cannier bowling attack in this format and for me that is definitely the Dolphins here.
Imran Tahir is one of the best bowlers in the world in this format of the game while Andile Phehlukwayo has hit the ground running in international cricket. They can be the difference I think. Morne van Wyk, Cameron Delport and Vaughn van Jaarsveld should all ensure that the Dolphins have enough runs in them so I’m with the home side here.
