England vs India – 3rd ODI Betting Preview

For the second time in two series on this tour, India head into a deciding match with England with one game deciding the winner of it. India landed the spoils when they won the third and final T20 match so England will be hoping for revenge in the third and last ODI at Leeds on Tuesday.

England levelled the series with an emphatic win at Lord’s on Saturday and they will be eyeing up the spoils when they head to Leeds but this India side are pretty competitive these days and will not give in without a fight.

England

It was much more like it from England in the second match of the series at Lord’s. They played the two spinners much better and as a result put up a score which they were able to defend. You get the feeling that their outcome in this match and the series will be determined by how they play the spinners here too.

There is a little bit of pressure on England here. If they go into the Test matches having lost both the limited overs series that won’t be a good start to the summer. They are also the favourites to win the World Cup next year and will want to show why here so it is important for England to win this match for their own psyche.

India

It was a very strange performance from India in the second match of the series. It was almost like they wanted to set up the pressure cooker of a deciding match because when England were going well there was no utilising a Plan B and then when they had the bat in their hand at no stage did you get the impression they were even trying to chase down the target let alone ever get there.

That was all very strange but we saw how good they were in the opening match of the series at Trent Bridge and if they can get back to performing like that then they are going to have every chance here. Although you feel their spinners can be the ones that determine the result they have a solid batting line up who when they want to can threaten any score.

Team News

England have an issue with Jason Roy who suffered what is being described as a laceration on his finger in the second ODI. He faces a fitness test on the morning of the match. James Vince has been called up as cover for him.

India look set to bring Bhuvneshwar Kumar back into their ranks after he has recovered from injury. He has been bowling well in training and is likely to come in for Siddarth Kaul who hasn’t made a massive impact.

Betting

Initially I thought India were good things here, especially when the news that Jason Roy is going to be out, but there has been a good deal of rain in the Yorkshire area on Monday evening which might be enough to negate the spinners of the Indian side. Even if there is no moisture in the wicket the lack of rain over recent weeks will have made the ground so hard that there will be juice in the outfield.

With that in mind I no longer like India are much and actually the best bet could be for under 590 runs. We’re yet to get anywhere near that number in the series on two batting paradises and with this day-night match beginning earlier than usual there won’t be enough time for all the moisture to disappear. The outfield may not be running as smoothly or as fast as the first two while England could be losing a key batsman. India are set to bring their best seamer back and this is a final where scoreboard pressure will be in play so 590.5 runs looks a high total to me.
