England vs India – ODI Series Betting Preview

After a wonderful T20 series for India to begin their tour of England with, they now head to an ODI series with the same opponents to battle it out to see who is the best team across the 50 over format.

Unfortunately this series is only three matches long which means we may not get to see both sides going at it at their very best but we should get some excellent cricket to enjoy in the time that they are against each other.

Schedule

1st ODI: July 12 at Trent Bridge

2nd ODI: July 14 at Lord’s

3rd ODI: July 17 at Headingley

England

The number one side in this format of the game put their reputation on the line. England will know they are in for a battle here with the competitiveness of the T20 series but after giving Australia a home and away beating in 2018 with a series win in New Zealand sandwiched in between the home side should be full of confidence.

It will be interesting to see if the three groundsmen can handle the pressure in this series. England will want true batting wickets to display their insanely good skills on but with the hottest summer I can remember over such a prolonged period of time it might not be easy to deliver that. One thing England will not want are dust bowls.

India

India have been in the country for a couple of weeks now and I would imagine they will be delighted with what they have seen from up above. With a five match Test series to come the hotter and drier the next six weeks can be the better it is for them. That begins in this three match series where the dry conditions can again assist the Indian spinners.

We saw in the T20 series that England do not play spin well so I would expect a fair amount of spin to be in the attack of the home side. We also saw in that series that India have brought a top class batting line up over who look full of runs and ready to showcase themselves in English conditions. They look like they could take some beating.

Betting

Normally I like to have a couple of series bets, especially when the series is done and dusted so quickly but three match series are the work of the devil in many ways so I’m not going to go too mad on the outright front.

There is one that I like though and that comes in the form of the top India series batsman where I really like Rohit Sharma. To be fair I usually side with Shikhar Dhawan in England but he’s been finding some crazy ways of getting out. We know that Sharma is in good touch from his ton in Bristol on Sunday and he is good in English conditions. He averages more than 50 in ODIs in England with a ton and five 50s in just 12 innings in this country. He looks the form horse in a talented line up and at 10/3 I’ll side with him to continue to score the more runs for India in this series.
