England vs South Africa – 3rd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

The final white ball international of the English summer takes place on Sunday when England meet South Africa for what is a deciding T20 international after both sides picked up a win each in the first two games.

They head to the Ageas Bowl in Southampton looking for the win which will secure the series but which will give more confidence and positive momentum towards the T20 World Cup which is just over two months away now.

England

England have produced a brilliant performance in this series so far and an ordinary one and they will be hoping to return to the first game where they were excellent rather than deliver a similar display to the one they gave last time out. This always felt like a transitional summer for England in both versions of the white ball game and so it is important that they come out of this one with something to show for their efforts.

The one thing you would say about England over the course of this series so far is their two bowling efforts have left a little to be desired. Admittedly they have played on a couple of grounds where there is no margin for error but they have conceded more than 190 on both occasions and moving forward they will need to find a way to restrict teams because it just isn’t feasible to keep winning matches when you are conceding so many runs. It is what caught them out in the last T20 World Cup.

South Africa

You have to give South Africa a lot of credit for the way they got back into this series. They were absolutely abysmal with the ball and in the field in the opening game but bounced back 24 hours later to put in a much stronger effort and run out comfortable winners and will be looking at this one that if they can improve again, especially with the ball, then there is no reason why they won’t come out of the series with the spoils.

South Africa have batted well in the series so far and when you consider they have got the likes of Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram on the sidelines that is very much a positive. You get the impression they are still searching for the best balance with the ball that keeps sufficient batting depth. Whether they tinker with their bowlers after a good performance in the last game will be the interesting thing here. There are matches with Ireland to come so they have further outings to test combinations out should they wish.

Team News

Under Eoin Morgan, England used to send an unchanged side out after being beaten to get back on the horse but there has to be question marks about how much longer Jason Roy can keep his place in the side without a big score. Phil Salt would be a natural replacement for him should that change happen here.

South Africa have some big players waiting in the wings to come into the side but unless Heinrich Klaasen is replaced or they choose to rotate their bowlers it would be a bit of a surprise if they make any changes here.

Betting

Moeen Ali has had a wonderful series so far picking up a wicket in both matches as well as delivering brutal innings with the bat and I expect him to finish the series well too. The bigger dimensions at the Ageas Bowl may well see him getting to bowl a full allocation of overs and with three kingpins being left-handers in the South Africa batting order his off spin will certainly be a handy option for Jos Buttler in this contest.

We know Moeen is in decent form with the bat too. In the five innings he has had in T20 internationals this summer he has scored 36, 35, 0, 52 and 28. He can be excused the duck because he came in with three overs to go and sacrificed his wicket in the quest for quick runs. When England played India on this ground to open up their T20 summer Moeen took two wickets as well as scoring 36 runs so with the form he is in I think he can cover his 33.5 point performance target.
