Euro 2020 Qualifying – Saturday 16th November Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The penultimate set of matches in the qualifying competition for Euro 2020 concludes on a busy day of action around Europe on Saturday, a day where there is a lot of attention on the Home Nations as they bid to find some form and in one case keep their hopes of progressing alive.

There are yet more sides in action looking to secure their qualification for the finals with a match to spare, with the Netherlands, Germany and Croatia among those who can do just that over the course of the day.

Group C

It is a pretty big night in Group C where the two leading protagonists in it will be looking to secure their spot in the main finals. The Netherlands are one of those and they face the tricky looking test of a trip to Belfast to take on a Northern Ireland side who have to win to keep their automatic qualifying hopes alive. Germany are the other side looking to confirm their qualification when they host Belarus in what should be an evening to party for the former world champions.

Group E

We have a team who can seal their spot in the finals next summer in this group on Saturday as well. That comes in the form of Croatia who host Slovakia knowing that if they avoid defeat they will qualify and if they win the match they will go through as the group winners. The equation for Wales is pretty simple. Two wins in three nights and they will qualify on the assumption that Slovakia don’t beat Croatia. The first of those outings comes in Azerbaijan on Saturday evening.

Group G

We already know that Poland are through to the finals next summer but they will secure top spot in the group if they can pick up a victory when they travel to an Israel side who technically are still alive in the competition but need two wins and something of a miracle to progress. The first game in the group on Saturday sees Slovenia hosting a Latvia side for whom it has all gone wrong while the big match in the section sees Austria taking on North Macedonia knowing they will also be through if they pick up the victory while Macedonia know they have to win to take their chances in the last round of matches.

Group I

The qualification spots in this group have already been secured but there is a battle for top spot in Moscow where Russia host Belgium needing a win to keep their hopes of that alive. The other four sides in the section are all playing for pride and a bit of form for those who are going into the playoffs. Scotland are in action in the first game of the day when they head out to Cyprus for their penultimate match of the group while the other game sees Kazakhstan heading to San Marino for a match they should be looking to win.

Betting

There are two bets I like over the course of the day, with the first one coming in Slovenia where I expect them to beat Latvia with plenty to spare. They have already won 5-0 in Riga and there are no signs that Latvia have got any better since then. If anything they’ve got even worse and although Slovenia have lost their last two outings, they were against Austria and North Macedonia who are infinitely better than Latvia, and Slovenia were competitive in both. Slovenia can attack this with a bit of freedom and I expect them to have a three goal margin in them at the very least, and potentially even more.

Later in the night I think Poland can go to Israel and pick up a result. Poland have only let two goals in throughout this campaign and they both came in a bad night at the office against Slovenia earlier in the competition. That highlights the size of the task for Israel who aren’t really playing for anything here. There was a stage in this group where Israel were genuine contenders to qualify but four matches with a win prior to their victory over Latvia last time out put paid to that. This Poland side continue to be underrated but I think they are good for the win here.
