The first round of matches in the qualifying campaign for next summer’s Euro 2020 tournament concludes on Saturday when the three groups yet to set off on their journey do so on a fairly busy day of football.
Most of the heavyweights of Europe have got their attempts to qualify up and running but we have saved Spain and Italy for Saturday night and they headline a card which also includes the Republic of Ireland among others.
Group D
There are just the two matches in this group on Saturday and they both involve early kick offs of sort. The first match of the day sees a rapidly improving Georgia side taking on Switzerland for whom Xherdan Shaqiri looks a big miss and then later in the afternoon the Republic of Ireland begin life back under Mick McCarthy when they head to Gibraltar to take on a side who will be looking to build on a good Nations League campaign.
Group F
We have a couple of early kick offs in this group as well with Sweden hosting Romania in what is probably the pick of the matches. You would think these two will be battling it out to follow Spain into the tournament so this is a big match even this early in the competition. It is hard to see many points being on offer for Malta or the Faroe Islands so their match is big for both. Later in the evening, Spain begin their qualifying campaign at home to Norway.
Group J
Italy are expected to be the side to dominate qualifying for the Euros from this group and they will be keen to make up for the disappointment of not making it to the World Cup last year. They open up their campaign against Finland, who had a wonderful Nations League and are improving all the time. Bosnia-Herzegovina had a good run in the Nations League too and they begin against Armenia with the other match seeing a vastly overrated Greece side travelling to Liechtenstein.

Betting
It has been and up and down first stage of the campaign for me and while the likes of Spain, Georgia and Finland tempt me they can wait until Tuesday night. Instead I will take one bet which comes in the form of Bosnia-Herzegovina who I believe will have too much for an Armenia side who have no consistency whatsoever.
That was highlighted in the UEFA Nations League where they lost to Gibraltar of all teams and then thumped Macedonia. Of more concern was that in their last two matches they conceded twice to both Gibraltar and Liechtenstein which should have Edin Dzeko and friends licking their lips at the prospect of getting stuck in here. Bosnia only conceded one goal in four matches in the Nations League, successfully coming out on top in a group which contained Austria so they can attack this group with a bit of freedom knowing that they have a play-off spot to fall back on. I expect them to be too good here and to cover a 1.25 Asian line.
