European Darts Trophy – Last 16 Matches Betting Preview

The European Darts Trophy concludes on Sunday with two sessions of play which sees the tournament draw to a finish from the last 16 stage onwards out in Muelheim.

The last 16 is played in the afternoon session while the evening session has the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final in a busy night of darts. We aren’t able to preview the evening session on Sunday do to time restrictions but we can look at the last 16.

Top Half

The afternoon begins with James Wade taking on Andy Jenkins in a battle of old times. Jenkins is in the middle of a good run here but his fellow Hampshire dartist will be looking to end that run. Both men came through deciding legs so that one should be tight. Michael Smith against Robert Thornton follows that one.

Ian White and Mensur Suljovic meet in the third match of the afternoon with both eyeing up a strong run on Sunday and then the top half of the draw finishes with another battle between Peter Wright and Joe Cullen after Cullen saw off Stephen Bunting in a cracking match on Saturday.

Bottom Half

Kin Huybrechts was back in awesome form on Saturday and he’ll take on Terry Jenkins in the first match of the bottom half of the draw while Dave Chisnall will meet the confident Gerwyn Price in what should be an explosive encounter.

There is an all Dutch battle in the penultimate match of the round when Benito van de Pas takes on Jelle Klaasen and then the last 16 will finish off with a tussle between Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock who is enjoying a decent run in a tournament again.

Betting

This isn’t the easiest card to bet on. I’m hoping Mensur Suljovic comes through because his half of the draw could really open up for our outright bet but other than that there is only one bet I like. That goes against what I went with on Saturday but some performances are hard to ignore.

The performance in question belonged to Jelle Klaasen. He averaged the better part of 112 and loose change in beating a Vincent van der Voort who was competitive in the early stages of that match and a repeat of that makes him a strong contender this weekend.

Klaasen faces a Benito van de Pas who eased past Josh Payne on Saturday night but there wasn’t too much which caught the eye about his performance. I know every day is different and all of that but there were 26pts between these two on the averages on Saturday night and that is a lot to make up. With the head to head record between the two reading 4-1 on Klaasen I’ll take him to build on Saturday’s win with another here.
