European Darts Trophy – Last 32 Matches Betting Preview

The seeded players join the fun at the European Darts Trophy on Saturday when the last 32 of the tournament is played out over the two sessions of play out in Muelheim which means we get to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and the defending champion Michael Smith take to the oche for the first time this weekend.

At the end of the double session day we will have the 16 men going forward to battle for the title and the extra benefits that come with winning so this should be an interesting ‘Moving Day’ to use a golf parlance.

Afternoon Session

The day begins with Robert Thornton taking to the stage. He faces Martin Schindler and they are followed by the match between Terry Jenkins and Zoran Lerchbacher. Gerwyn Price looks to make it into the last 16 when he faces Jermaine Wattimena in the third match on stage and then Mensur Suljovic begins his attempt to back up last week’s win when he plays Vincent Kamphuis.

James Wade isn’t forced to play too many afternoon sessions but he features in this one. He faces Justin Pipe before Andy Jenkins goes up against Alan Norris. The match of the afternoon could be the battle between Michael Smith and Dimitri van den Bergh which is the penultimate game of the session before Ian White meets Devon Petersen to draw the afternoon to a close.

Evening Session

A busy evening session gets underway with a potentially good game between Stephen Bunting and Joe Cullen before Kim Huybrechts meets Kyle Anderson in the tie of the round. Dave Chisnall is next up after them. He takes on Jamie Caven and then Peter Wright meets Andy Smith.

There is an all-Dutch battle on the card when Jelle Klaasen takes on Vincent van der Voort which won’t take long much to the delight of Michael van Gerwen who follows them when he takes on Keegan Brown. The day concludes with two more good matches as Benito van de Pas plays Josh Payne and then Simon Whitlock faces Ricky Evans.

Betting

I always find the second day of these tournaments tricky to bet on because the qualifiers have had a match on the stage and the seeds can be caught cold so I’m going to keep my bets to a minimum. I nearly took Kyle Anderson and Ricky Evans at odds against and attractive prices but in the end I’ve decided to go with just one.

That is on Vincent van der Voort to beat Jelle Klaasen. These two play at a relentless pace but it seems to suit van der Voort. I say that because he has won six of the last eight meetings between the two men which is a pretty decent effort when we consider the levels Klaasen is capable of playing.

I took Klaasen last week and he did me no favours really in an ordinary performance and so I’m happy enough to take him on against an opponent who played well to come through a tricky looking match on Friday and who seems to enjoy the better of it when these two meet.
