We are down to the final four at the European Masters in Furth as the first proper ranking event of the season reaches the business stage with four players in action on Saturday each looking to make it through to the final on Sunday and the benefits that come with it.
We’ve seen a number of shocks this week but we still have four household names in the semi-finals and with the format going up to the best of 11 frames for these two matches we should be set for a brilliant day of snooker out in Germany.
Afternoon Session
Kyren Wilson vs Ali Carter
The opening semi-final of the tournament sees a man who has won at this venue in the past in Kyren Wilson taking on the former world finalist Ali Carter for a place in the final on Sunday.
Wilson won the Paul Hunter Classic here a few years ago and is clearly drawing on good memories of the venue having made it through at the expense of Shaun Murphy. Carter has had a nicer draw here but he has still had to play well to come through. I think this will be a step too far for him but his fighting spirit is enough for me to dodge taking him on. I’ll sit this one out.

Evening Session
Barry Hawkins vs Mark Williams
The second semi-final has the potential to be an absolute cracker as Barry Hawkins, not usually a fast starter to a season, takes on Mark Williams who is now two wins away from winning the first full event of a campaign for the second year in a row.
Hawkins has been excellent in this tournament so far. His headline win was his quarter final success over Judd Trump where he took his century count for the event to eight. Given that he usually only comes strong in the second half of a season, the fact he is going well here is almost a tip in itself. Williams is going well too though. He has come past Zhou Yuelong and Jamie Jones for the loss of one frame in the last two rounds and although he goes up in level of opponent here he is scoring well too. We are set for a cracking semi-final here but I always think when Hawkins plays well he is a really tough nut to crack. Williams has gone very well over the last couple of seasons but he’s been found out in a few tight semi-finals over the last 12 months and I sense this might go the same way. I’ll take Hawkins here.
