FIFA World Cup 2022 European Qualifiers – Wednesday 1st September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

After a wonderful Euro 2020 tournament, the focus of attention for the European nations turns to qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar next year and the latest set of matches gets underway on Wednesday.

These games are the first of three that will be played out over the next week so every side in action on Wednesday will be eager to pick up three points to ease the pressure on them for the matches to come later in this international break.

Group A

Portugal have the opportunity to move clear at the top of Group A when they feature in one of the two matches that are on show over the course of the evening. They take on a Republic of Ireland side who were forced to watch Euro 2020 from home and that should be all the motivation they need to deliver a strong performance here. The other game in the group sees two of the minnows in action as Luxembourg take on Azerbaijan for a valuable three points.

Group D

In a group that has largely been full of draws so far, France have the chance to extend their advantage in the section on Wednesday evening when they host Bosnia and Herzegovina. The French will be looking to bounce back from their surprisingly early exit at Euro 2020. The other match is the early kick off where Kazakhstan take on a Ukraine side who need to kick their campaign into life if they are going to build on a positive run to the quarter final of Euro 2020.

Group F

The top two meet in the standout match in Group F on Wednesday evening when the Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark look to move further clear at the top of the table when they host a Scotland side whose involvement in the summer should motivate them to make sure they get to Qatar next year. Austria and Israel have made indifferent starts to their campaign and they will be eyeing up three points from matches they should win on Wednesday. Austria travel to Moldova while Israel have a trip to the Faroe Islands to contend with.

Group G

The most competitive looking group of the lot so far in this campaign is Group G with four of the six sides having won two of their three matches to date. Two of those teams are in action in Oslo where Norway take on the Netherlands who begin life under Louis van Gaal once again. The other two sides with two wins to their name also meet as Turkey welcome Montenegro for a big match. That leaves the two minnows battling it out for a rare win in the other match in the group when Latvia play host to Gibraltar.

Group H

This is another group where the top two meet on Wednesday evening when second placed Russia welcome the leaders Croatia in the standout match in the section. With one of them guaranteed to drop points Slovakia will be looking to take advantage when they make the trip to take on Slovenia while the other match in the group sees the two lesser ranked teams in the group meeting when Malta play host to Cyprus.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the evening which is on Denmark to do a bit of a job on Scotland. This Denmark side are very much one that is on the up as we saw at Euro 2020 where they deservedly made it all the way to the semi-final and were unfortunate to go out to England in the end. Scotland were at that tournament but we saw the difference in levels between them and the better sides in Europe and I expect to see that again here.

Both nations have had their issues with Covid-19 in the lead up to this match. That has deprived Denmark of some players but Scotland are without some big players because of it and were already without others due to injury. I think Denmark have built up a squad that allows them to miss a couple of players and still be competitive whereas Scotland really need their big players available. Denmark have won their opening three matches in this campaign and scored 14 goals in the process and I expect the convincing wins to keep on coming for them here.
