FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers – Monday 9th June Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The qualifying campaign for the FIFA World Cup continues on Monday when another half a dozen matches take place on a night where some big teams will be looking to improve their chances of reaching the finals next summer.

Italy and Belgium headline the action over the course of what feels like a key day in the three groups which are competing once again so we should expect plenty of quality but no shortage of tension and drama mixed in with it.

Monday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Kazakhstan vs North Macedonia (3pm)

Belgium vs Wales (BBC 1)

Croatia vs Czech Republic

Estonia vs Norway

Faroe Islands vs Gibraltar

Italy vs Moldova

Preview

We begin the day in Group J where it could be a big day for North Macedonia. They will go to the top of the table for a few hours at the very least when they make the trip to take on a Kazakhstan side who will be looking to build on their win over Liechtenstein in their latest group match. Later in the day in that group the two favourites to qualify battle it out when Belgium, who dropped two points to North Macedonia in their opening game on Friday night, host a Wales side who could be away and gone as far as Belgium are concerned if they win.

Group I is one of two other groups on show on Monday evening. Norway have stolen a march on the rest in the group and are not expected to be pegged back when they travel to Estonia for their latest match. All doesn’t look well in the Italy camp and it is imperative that they avoid another slip up when they host Moldova. Group L is the other one on show where again the two fancied runners will battle it out when Croatia look to build on their goal glut against Gibraltar last time out when they host Czechia while the two minnows meet in the other game when the Faroe Islands clash with Gibraltar.

Betting

These truncated nights of action in the World Cup qualifying doesn’t make betting particularly easy because with the mismatches on the card there isn’t really a lot to go on but there is a bet which has got my attention and it comes on the match where the British interest will lie as Belgium play host to Wales in what is a massive game in the group. A draw would suit Wales but were they to win it they would be able to almost touch their spot in the main event.

Belgium really have to win this match after being held by North Macedonia on Friday night and that should make for an entertaining game. That is even more the case when you consider that ahead of the match Craig Bellamy has openly stated that he is going to attack Belgium in this contest. Usually you would say that was mind games and bravado but if you remember how he took down the host on the Monday Night Football he was on recently there is enough to think he meant it. Belgium have just conceded to North Macedonia so they can’t be considered watertight right now while Wales have already conceded to Kazakhstan and the Macedonians in this group. This feels like another game where both teams will score to extend the run of five straight times it has happened dating back to Euro 2016.
