French 1000 Guineas 2023 – Big Race Tips and Betting Preview

The flat racing season continues around the world on Sunday with some excellent racing in a vast number of places as we begin to look towards the Derby next month. We have primarily focused on the UK and Ireland scene but we leave that for a day.

That is because it is Guineas day over in France with the 1000 Guineas of particular interest to us. Having nailed the winner of the UK version of this race last weekend, we are going with one in the showpiece at Longchamp.

It’s Guineas day over in France and it’s the fillies race that interests us.  There’s a relatively small field of 10 and the market is dominated by Blue Rose Cen, a winner of 5 of her last 6 starts including the Marcel Boussac at the end of her 2 year old campaign.  This year, she returned with a win over course & distance in the Group 3 Prix De La Grotte where she dictated a relatively steady pace and kicked off the front.  She enjoys this deep ground and should be tough to beat but odds-on in a race where I think there could be rivals for the lead is not for me.  Aiden O’Brien sends over Never Ending Story & this progressive filly is ridden by Ryan Moore.  She has yet to fire in 2 Group 1’s, first when only 8 lengths 4th to Tahiyra in the Moyglare and then when over 5 lengths behind Blue Rose Cen in the Marcel Boussac.  She did improve to win a Guineas trial over in Ireland and, judged on that run, she should go well but whether she’s up to this class is debatable.

Betting

Lindy – This French trained runner is the one I’m pretty sweet on.  She was 3 from 3 as a 2 year old, the best of those being a win in a Listed race at Toulouse.  However, her chance is solely judged on her reappearance run behind today’s favourite in the Prix De La Grotte.  She stayed midfield for the majority of the race and looked to me like she’d prefer a more end to end gallop.   Off the home turn, she delayed her run a little too much and didn’t get a perfect passage through but when she was in the clear, she picked up very well and was closing all the way to the line.  Today’s race could pan out differently and on formlines, her price is significantly out of line with both of the front 2 in the market.  Ridden by one of very best France has to offer, I fully expect her to be in the shake up when push comes to shove.
