French Open Tennis 2017 – Day 6 Betting Preview

We move into the third round of the French Open on Friday and for the first time in the week we get battles between seeded players on both of the singles draws. With that in mind we are set for an excellent day of tennis at Roland Garros in Paris.

Day 5 Recap

We lost a couple of big names on Thursday with Tomas Berdych and Nick Kyrgios departing from the men’s draw and Madison Keys exiting from the women’s event. While they were all losing the likes of Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori, Stan Wawrinka, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina all made it through.

It was yet another frustrating day betting wise as we landed our first bet when Su-Wei Hsieh saw off Taylor Townsend but we couldn’t get anything else out of the day to leave us a point down for the three bets and with work to do on Friday.

Philippe Chatrier Court

The defending women’s champion Garbine Muguruza takes on Yulia Putintseva in the first match on the main court before Rafael Nadal goes up against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second match of the afternoon.

Defending men’s champion Novak Djokovic is third on the court when he faces the unseeded Argentine Diego Schwartzman and then the action concludes with Venus Williams up against the Belgian player Elise Mertens.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

David Goffin gets things up and running on Lenglen. He faces Horacio Zeballos before the home player Kristina Mladenovic faces the unheralded American Shelby Rogers in the second match of the day.

Another French star is third on this course when he takes on the dangerous Spanish player Albert Ramos-Vinolas before the exciting Caroline Wozniacki is last up on Friday when she faces another American in the form of Catherine Bellis.

Court 1

One of the matches of the day begins things on this course when Pablo Carreno Busta faces Grigor Dimitrov before Dominic Thiem battles with Steve Johnson who came through an emotional epic in the previous round. Svetlana Kuznetsova then continues her quest for a second Roland Garros title when she faces Shuai Zhang and Timea Bacsinszky is last on the court against Ons Jabeur.

Best of the Rest

Courts 2 and 3 have singles matches mixed in with doubles action but those with a ground pass will still be able to see the likes of Milos Raonic and Roberto Bautista Agut in action as well as the former champion Sam Stosur.

Betting

I’m going to go with two bets on Friday and they both come from the men’s draw. First up I like Pablo Carreno Busta. He has impressed me for a while but especially on clay and while Grigor Dimitrov has played well so far in this tournament I’m unsure how he will be if he is severely tested as I expect him to be here. Carreno Busta won their last meeting which was on clay and if anything he has improved since. I expect plenty of mileage in this match but I can see the Spaniard winning it.

I’m going for a Spanish double on the day as my other bet involves Albert Ramos-Vinolas who is playing some pretty emphatic tennis right now. He met Lucas Pouille in the semi-final in Monte Carlo earlier in the year and won in three sets and I fancy he’ll win this one too. Ramos-Vinolas made the semis in Rio and the final in Sao Paulo as well as the final in Monte Carlo where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Lucas Pouille needed five sets in the first round here and should have lost the first set in the second round. If he takes as long to get going here AR-V could be away and gone.
