French Open Tennis 2017 – Day 8 Betting Preview

After rain curtailed the action in the French Open on Saturday, the third round concludes and the fourth round begins on what is suddenly a busier Sunday than anticipated at Roland Garros as the second Grand Slam of the year begins its second week.

Day 7 Recap

It was a terrible day for us betting wise as we lost one bet in a final set, another from a winning position courtesy of a third set collapse and one which just didn’t turn up sadly so once again we have work to do on Sunday.

In terms of the matches which did finish Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray made it safely through but Agnieszka Radwanska was a casualty as she was battered by Alize Cornet. Simona Halep eased through against Daria Kasatkina.

Philippe Chatrier Court

A women’s match is on court first when Caroline Wozniacki takes on Svetlana Kuznetsova for a place in the quarter final before Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils return to conclude their third round match which is locked at 6-5 to Monfils in the first set.

Venus Williams and Timea Bacsinszky meet in the third match on the court with the winner a potential opponent for the defending champion Garbine Muguruza in the quarter final while the finale on this court sees Albert Ramos-Vinolas taking on Novak Djokovic for a place in the last eight.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

Elina Svitolina will play her third round match second up on this court when she takes on Magda Linette in a match held over from Saturday. They are followed by the Spanish duo Roberto Bautista Agut and Rafael Nadal which should be very entertaining.

The third match on the court sees the local hope Kiki Mladenovic taking on the defending women’s champion Garbine Muguruza with the last match on this court being between Dominic Thiem and Horacio Zeballos.

Court 1

The first pair on this court on Sunday are Hyeon Chung and Kei Nishikori. They continue with Nishikori 2-1 up in sets but a break down in the fourth. Milos Raonic and Pablo Carreno Busta follow them with doubles concluding the day on the court.

Best of the Rest

With the catch up procedure in operation there are singles matches on a number of the courts on Sunday. John Isner, Sam Stosur and Karolina Pliskova are among those on show away from the main courts.

Betting

I like a couple of bets in both the men and women draws on Sunday. In the men I’m not sure Roberto Bautista Agut is getting quite enough credit heading into his match against Rafael Nadal. I accept Nadal has been on top form in this tournament but he hasn’t met anything like the quality his Spanish rival can provide. I don’t think RBA wins this but a 9.5 game handicap looks big. If he keeps one set tight his sheer motivation will do the rest.

I’m staying Spanish for my second bet where Pablo Carreno Busta looks too big a price to see off Milos Raonic. PCB took care of a good looking Grigor Dimitrov in the previous round and now faces a player who isn’t as suited to clay as other courts. I’d be surprised if Carreno Busta wins this in straight sets but the longer it goes the better it should be for him and I’ll go with the Spaniard there.

Moving over to the women and there are a couple of matches where I like over 21.5 games. They are the ones between Caroline Wozniacki and Svetlana Kuznetsova and the Sam Stosur and Jelena Ostapenko match.

All four players in these matches are playing incredibly well and are actually potential winners of the tournament and I suspect both games will go to a deciding set or have a very close set if it doesn’t. Those game lines look very accessible to me.
