French Open Tennis 2025 – Men’s Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is the turn of the men to play their semi-finals at the French Open on Friday when both matches take place on the Philippe Chatrier Court on a day where we will find out which two men will compete for the second Grand Slam title of the year.

We have four of the top eight players in the world rankings competing across these two semi-finals so it goes without saying that we are in for a fascinating and high quality day of tennis in the French capital on Friday.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Carlos Alcaraz

Two of the best young guns in the game right now clash in the opening semi-final of the competition when the Italian star Lorenzo Musetti is the latest to attempt to end the title defence of Carlos Alcaraz in a match which should be full of fireworks between two eminently watchable players.

These two have already met on the clay twice this season and Alcaraz has won them both but Musetti wasn’t far away in either of them and that makes me think that we are in for a cracking match here. Musetti did win a set in the first of those two meetings before going down 2-0 in Rome where he went down in a tiebreak in the second set. Both these men have dropped sets on their way to this semi-final and while Alcaraz looked good against Tommy Paul in the quarter final, he was pushed more than most would have expected by Damir Dzumhur and Ben Shelton and that will give Musetti a lot of confidence. I don’t see the Italian winning this but there is enough evidence over the best of five sets that he can stay close but at the same time, he is capable of inspirational spells which even Alcaraz might not live with. Those who want to take Alcaraz to win and both to win a set I couldn’t put you off but after a dismal day in the women’s semis I’ll play it safe and just take both players to win a set rather than then have to get the winner right too.

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic

The second semi-final will come along in the evening out in Paris and it will see the world number one Jannik Sinner looking to extend his winning run in Grand Slams to 20 matches when he faces the greatest of them all in Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic has done well in making it to this stage of the tournament. He has only dropped one set and that was courtesy of dropping the opening service game of his match against Alexander Zverev in the quarter final. From that point onwards he never lost his serve and his defensive skills were there for all to see, although the German visibly hit a wall the longer that match went on. I don’t see Sinner doing that. He is full of belief right now and he is relentless. He hits the ball so clean and just looks imperious on the court but if anyone is going to get him out of his rhythm and put a dent in his confidence then there is a good chance it will be a motivated and confident Djokovic. I see two situations here. The first is Sinner is just too good and he runs away with this quite comfortably and the second is that Djokovic gets his teeth into this match and gets the Italian tense and snatches this in a lengthy battle. I’m leaning towards the former but the latter is causing enough of a nagging doubt to avoid betting on this one and just enjoy it for the spectacle it will hopefully be.
