French Open Tennis 2025 Women’s Final – Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff Tips and Betting Preview

The second Grand Slam title of the year will be won for the women on Saturday afternoon when the top two seeds meet in the final of the French Open as Aryna Sabalenka takes on Coco Gauff on the Philippe Chatrier Court.

These two women are no strangers to doing battle in major finals and one of them will get their hands on the French Open title for the first time by coming out on top in this match. The rankings suggest these are the best two in the game right now so we should be in for a tasty final.

Aryna Sabalenka

I think at the start of the fortnight, Aryna Sabalenka was fancied by plenty of judges to win this title while at the same time it being recognised that this is probably the weaker of the surfaces for her. That isn’t to say she couldn’t win the crown here but were this being played on a hard court she would have been an even stronger favourite. The other doubt was whether she would be able to get the better of Iga Swiatek in a potential semi-final matchup but that question was answered emphatically on Thursday.

Sabalenka did drop a set in that semi-final, the only one she has dropped so far in this tournament, but when she was able to get into a rhythm and control the pace of the points she looked pretty unstoppable. The world number one has never competed in the final here in Paris so this will be new territory for her but she has got three Grand Slams behind her so she certainly knows how to get the job done on the big stage and will look to prove that once again here.

Coco Gauff

Those who didn’t maybe fancy Sabalenka to win the tournament might well have been swaying in the direction of Coco Gauff. The American has a good record here overall and was never going to need to run into anyone of the class of Iga Swiatek before the final. As it is, Gauff has only faced one player in the top 16 en route to this final and had the much smoother semi-final against Lois Boisson so she comes into this final incredibly fresh.

There is no doubt that there are weaknesses in the technical side of the Gauff game, which were this tournament being played on a faster court might well have been exposed more by now, but the one part of her game where she is very strong is mentally and that might bode well in a final where not everything is likely to go her way. Gauff has got her hands on Grand Slam silverware and she has competed in a French Open final before too so none of this will be new to her.

Head-to-head

These two women have met 10 times in their career in total and it couldn’t be much closer between the two as they both have five wins each. They have only met once in 2025 which was in Madrid where the altitude speeds the play up and Sabalenka won that in straight sets. Gauff won their only other meeting on clay in Rome back in 2021. This will be the third time the pair have met in a final. That match in Madrid earlier in the season was one of the two other times they have faced off for a trophy while the other one was their only previous Grand Slam final which was in the 2023 US Open. Gauff won 26 63 62. There isn’t much across history to separate the two.

Betting

This should be a cracking final and based on the history between the two it should be a lengthy and tight final as well. The pair have played each other 10 times in the past and eight of those have gone beyond the 21.5 game line that we have for this title showdown and one of the two which didn’t cover had exactly 21 games so the trend is very much for the over and I wouldn’t want to go against that if I am honest because both look in excellent form.

It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to me if this one goes to a third set because as well as excellent players, these two are both very good champions too and neither is likely to go down here without a big fight which bodes well for a close match. If we take out the effective walkover that Coco had in the semi-final, her quarter final covered this against an elite big hitter while Sabalenka covered this game line in her semi-final against Iga Swiatek. I expect this one to have more than 21.5 games.
